Maserati GranCabrio: Italian style at maximum speed

The GranCabrio is a convertible version of the latest generation GranTurismo coupe, which went on sale last year. Maserati will release this model in 2024.


It is known that at the start of sales only the performance-oriented Trofeo version will be available. The more luxurious Modena class will arrive later, as will the electric Folgore.

Petrol engine and electric version of Folgore

The Maserati GranCabrio is a stylish car with a soft top, premium interior trim and a six-cylinder engine. It's starting to feel a little old-fashioned when you compare it to the newer BMW 8 Series Convertible and Mercedes S-Class.

The Trofeo version is equipped with the 3,0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that Maserati equips in the MC20 supercar, but with less power at 442 hp. With. and without a dry sump lubrication system. It comes standard with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 3,6 seconds, and the top speed is 315 km/h.


The electric version of the Folgore should receive a three-motor powertrain (one at the front and two at the rear), generating a total of 750 hp. With. The engines are powered by a battery with a capacity of 92,5 kWh. The same setup is used in the GranTurismo Folgore. By the way, the design of the latter is made in the same style as the models of the previous generation, which were produced for more than ten years. The convertible variant also has an almost identical soft top as its predecessor.

The GranCabrio weighs just 100kg more than the coupe, with the bulk of that weight coming from the folding roof mechanism. The curb weight of the petrol version is 1770 kg. The electric Folgore will certainly be heavier.

Salon

The soft top, which comes in five different colours, raises and lowers in just 14 seconds and can operate at speeds of up to 50 km/h. A neck warmer with three intensity levels is standard, and an optional wind deflector is mounted behind the front seats to improve aerodynamics, although at the expense of those sitting in the back.


The Maserati GranCabrio's cabin doesn't look as modern as the same BMW 8 Series Convertible or Mercedes S-Class, and it's not as intuitive to use. This is especially true of Maserati's rather dated infotainment system.

As in the coupe, the “tidy” is equipped with three screens: the main panel with sensor readings (12,2 inches), the Android-based infotainment system (12,3″) and the display for climate settings (8,8″). There are some physical controls for key functions, including gear selection.

The dashboard and door materials feel nice and soft, and the standard leather seats are luxurious, similar to those found in Mercedes and BMW. It’s a pity that their support is not as high quality as the “Germans”. This won't be a problem if you're doing short trips, but if you drive the GranCabrio a couple of hundred miles you'll find yourself stopping more often to stretch your legs.


There is another, fourth screen - a digital clock. They are mounted on top of the center stack and can be switched between multiple dials, including a compass. Other high-tech features include an overhead display and a Sonus Faber audio system with 13 speakers as standard and 16 as an option. According to Maserati, the premium system can create 3D sound.

Prices

Sales of the GranCabrio will begin later this year. Pricing information has not yet been disclosed, but it is known that the GranTurismo coupe in the Trofeo configuration costs about $205 (RUB 000 million).
