Wireless compressor – does it make sense to buy it?

Wireless compressor – does it make sense to buy it?
Everyone is slowly getting used to wireless devices. Meanwhile, they are increasingly becoming part of our everyday life, including the automotive sector. Today you won’t surprise anyone with wireless charging for your smartphone. But once upon a time it seemed almost a miracle. Manufacturers of car accessories also did not ignore this technical achievement and introduced another new product to the market - cordless compressors. Now you don’t need to run around with wires around the car - progress is nearby!

What kind of devices are these, what types do they come in, how much do they cost, and in general: does it make sense to buy them and use them? There are mainly a couple of types of cordless compressors on sale. Some have a familiar, “classic” appearance and dimensions. Others are compact devices the size of a smartphone. And as soon as they inflate the wheels?

Multifunctional cordless compressors

Next we will talk about products of different sizes. The former resemble traditional mechanisms in appearance, the latter can fit into a pocket if it is large. However, both compact and large devices have the same operating principle: inside there is a battery that is charged from a 220 V household network or a car, as well as a diaphragm or piston pump.

At the same time, the “classic” operating mode is retained, which involves inflating the wheels through the cigarette lighter. Now let’s turn to the most popular products of this type to get acquainted with cordless compressors in detail.

Forse K1

This is a fairly powerful pump with a standard design and many options. The compressor is equipped with a lithium-ion battery, the energy of which is enough (according to the manufacturer) for an hour of operation. The battery is charged for almost the same amount of time from a 220 V outlet. A green LED indicates that the battery capacity is replenished (at first it is red).

The kit includes adapters that help inflate balls, mattresses, tires, and a special hose for rubber boats. There are other interesting additions:

✅ display showing pressure
✅ the presence of an air suction function (something like a vacuum cleaner)
✅ backlight, charge indication on LED elements
✅ USB port on the battery for charging gadgets
✅ built-in flashlight
✅ auto shut off option

The compressor is capable of delivering a maximum pressure of 10,9 atmospheres, the device’s capacity is 50 liters. FORSE K1 “operators” say that, in general, the purchase lives up to expectations, but most users do not recommend connecting through the cigarette lighter.

The compressor is powerful, which can cause heating of the electrical wiring in the car. Therefore, it is better to purchase an adapter with battery clamps. Another disadvantage is the high price and the lack of a bag included. Portable models of cordless compressors are more popular among car owners. So let's move on to them.

Dunobil Luft Klein Pro

Products under this brand are available in several versions, depending on performance. Let's consider the one that is more powerful. The long name catches your eye: for some reason it’s in German – it’s a Russian company! Well, okay, it’s up to them, they’ll have to work as a translator: after the company name Dunobil we see Luft (“air”), then comes Klein (“small”) and Pro. The last word suggests that this is a model with increased power. The weaker one produces 27,8, this one produces 34 l/min.

In terms of dimensions (155x80x43 mm), the compressor resembles a smartphone: you can stuff it into a large pocket or put it in a handbag, although it will look strange there. The weight compared to the phone is quite large - 0,527 kg. Technical data:

✅ maximum pressure – up to 10,2 atmospheres
✅ operating time on a full charge – up to 20 minutes
✅ battery capacity – 6000 mA
✅ there is a digital pressure gauge and a flashlight
✅ operating temperature – from -10° to +50°

The compressor is controlled using buttons on the body. You can select the mode of car, motorcycle, bicycle, ball, as well as the method of displaying pressure: in kg/sq. cm, psi, kPa. Preset values are 2,5, 2,4, 2,06 and 0,6 bar, respectively (error no more than 0,1 kg/sq. cm).

You can set the required pressure yourself. The kit includes a USB cable (type C), a needle adapter for balls and a Presta valve for road bikes.

What do users say

The compressor is “clad” in durable plastic with metal elements. There is protection against overheating and short circuits. The main complaints are about the battery with a low capacity, which is enough to pump up a pair of completely flat tires by 17 inches. And it will take 3-4 hours to charge the battery. Don’t forget about frost – the lower limit of -10° is too small. However, for cyclists and motorcyclists Dunobil Luft Klein Pro is a good option, although the price is steep. Is there anything cheaper?

MSPC (China)

The compressor with a handle resembles a mini screwdriver. It is used for inflating car, motorcycle and bicycle tires, balls, mattresses, etc. The “bunch” of adapters provided in the kit seems to help increase the pressure in any rubber casing.

The compressor can also be used simply to measure pressure. Average price: 2377 rub. Photo: YouTube.com

Everything happens automatically: you plug the hose into the nipple and the compressor turns on itself; when the pressure you set is reached, it turns off. All information is displayed on a monochrome screen. Characteristics:

✅ battery capacity – 4000 mA
✅ created pressure – up to 8 atmospheres
✅ productivity – 27 l/minute
✅ power consumption – 120 W
✅ dimensions - 197x130x52 mm
✅ weight - 500 g

The compressor has a built-in flashlight and a storage bag. Charges from a 220 V network via an adapter with a USB port for about two hours. The main disadvantage that users have noticed is the strong heating during long inflation of car tires. Other negative aspects are the weak plastic tip (it’s better to replace it with a metal one), and the inability to turn off the backlight when the device is operating. But the price is not very annoying when compared with the models discussed above.

iCartool IC-CC3665

And another cordless compressor at a budget price, produced by a Russian manufacturer. It’s also a fairly compact contraption with the same dimensions as the previous device. The model is a piston pump (cylinder diameter 17 mm), powered by a battery. Here the characteristics are more modest, but the energy consumption is less:

✅ productivity – 15 l/minute
✅ power - 50 W
✅ battery capacity – 4000 mA
✅ pressure – up to 10,1 atmospheres

The kit traditionally includes adapters for inflating balls, mattresses, etc. The compressor automatically turns off when the set pressure is reached. Everything is controlled via a digital display and LED backlighting.

The compressor fits comfortably in your hand. Average price: 2096 rub. Photo: YouTube.com

Users note that it is not advisable to operate the device in inflation mode for a long time: it is not intended for tire mounting! However, one buyer claims that iCartool IC-CC15 “restored” a completely deflated 3665-inch wheel in 8,5 minutes. And pumping up all 4 tires after winter storage from 1,95 to 2,15 atm. takes no more than three minutes in total. It is also not recommended to plug the device into the cigarette lighter socket due to overheating.

General conclusions

It is possible that one day compressors will become just that – wireless. From what we examined, the first option raises doubts: it is better to carry a traditional device with you: the dimensions are almost the same, but the price differs significantly. As for portable compressors, this “unit” is very suitable for inflating bicycle, motorcycle tires and other household tires. Using miniature devices for a car is a dubious and time-consuming undertaking, especially if you are in a hurry. But everyone decides for themselves!
