"Iniya" - "dolphin" in metal will be sent to the customer

We are talking about the second passenger ship with a shallow (half a meter) draft, developed by NIPTB Onega. This is one of the branches of the United Shipbuilding Corporation. The ship is designed for operation on commuter lines and for excursions.


The project received approval at the end of 2022. Inia carries 54 people on board, plus a couple of crew members. The length of the vessel is 24,8 m. During the construction of this model, 90% of the components and assemblies were made in Russia. "Inia" is an improved version of the previous vessel "Sotalia". In contrast, the new ship is more powerful and has high sides of 1,4 m. This makes it possible to operate equipment not only on rivers, but also on lakes and reservoirs. At the same time, many components of the two ships are unified.


The name "Inia" refers to a species of freshwater dolphin found in the Amazon. By the way, the name of its predecessor, “Sotalia,” means the same thing. And this is not just like that: if you look closely, you will notice that some of the contours of the ships actually resemble the figure of this popular animal. It is expected that in the future a series of similar shallow draft vessels will be built in Russia. Production is planned to be carried out at enterprises that are part of the USC: and they are located throughout the Russian Federation.
