An alloy for PD-8 Superjet turbine blades was developed in Rybinsk
During the cooperation of the company from Rybinsk with VIAM and the Kurchatov Institute, it was possible to create as many as 5 new alloys necessary for the PD-8 aircraft engine. The developed materials are required for the manufacture of turbine blades, which are characterized by high load. The alloys proposed by scientists do not change their chemical composition under difficult operating conditions and have a reduced level of impurities. In terms of mechanical parameters, Russian material is in no way inferior to foreign analogues used in aircraft engine construction.


Igor Ilyin, who holds the position of chief. engineer at UEC-Saturn, noted that the created alloys help to implement the technical characteristics originally laid down in the PD-8. The introduction of new generation blades will occur without any major changes in the production process.

Nickel-based materials developed by UEC are characterized by heat resistance and long service life. Ilyin added that the new alloys can be used in the future to create other, more powerful aircraft engines.
