A starter-generator is needed to start and spin up the aircraft's power plant. The unit operates until the engine speed reaches full power. Subsequently, STG-PD-35 switches to power generation mode. According to the creators, their device can improve the efficiency of the PD-35 aircraft engine. Thanks to the installation of this version of the starter generator, less energy will be spent on taxiing during takeoff, cleaning and air conditioning for the passenger compartment and cabin.
There is still more testing ahead. Photo: YouTube.com
Development of the PD-35 has been ongoing since 2016. This is the most powerful and dimensional power plant weighing 8 tons for aircraft in the entire history of aircraft construction in the USSR and the Russian Federation. Over the past couple of years, work on the further creation of the unit has intensified: last fall, tests of the gas generator were successfully completed. Today, full testing of the prototype is approaching (according to Rostec).
