The appearance of this passenger airliner was a real sensation. Is it conceivable to move at a speed of 2150 km/h? And this happened at the end of the sixties of the last century. The new airliner was capable of carrying passengers in the earth's atmosphere much faster than the speed of sound (343 m/s).
To make this possible, the flying machine received a number of unusual solutions. So, to protect the cockpit and windshield, a unique design was invented. The nose section had a lowering casing that changed its position before acceleration.
The plane was accelerated to unimaginable speeds by four turbojet propulsion engines. There are no flaps for control, but there is a special tail. And in order to level out the change in the center of air pressure at supersonic speed, fuel was pumped into a special container in the tail of the aircraft.
Seeing such a liner in action is a truly fantastic sight. Can you imagine how contemporaries reacted to the Tu-144, if even today many look at it with their mouths agape? The opportunity to see not only the legendary aircraft, but also the passenger compartment and even the cockpit was kindly provided to us by the video blog “OKandrew Planespotting Channel” - don’t miss it!
