Homemade 1 cm700 boxer engine - but they could have made one like this back in the USSR
It’s not for nothing that Ural brand motorcycles have a special status. These legendary models are still in production today. Although the brand is now called URAL, it makes domestic bikes that trace their lineage back to German BMWs of the late 1930s. In the 90s, the brand tried to move on to “new rails” and integrate into modern times. Then they mastered the production of several chopper-style models. Plus they assembled motorcycles without sidecars, alone. But nothing worked out. For complete modernization, money and equipment were needed. Therefore, the bikes were not structurally very different from the old Soviet “sidecars”. And in the 90s, the population did not have money for new motorcycles. And those who had the necessary funds for the purchase preferred used Japanese ones.

As for the engines, they haven’t changed much for the Urals in over 80 years. At first, the power units had a volume of 750 cm3. Then they were reduced to 650, adding power. As a result, they returned to the previous volume. Such motors are still produced today. They no longer tried to increase the cubic capacity. Although, in the mid-90s there was an 825 cm3 engine - they were even produced in small series. But the author of the channel “AutoMoto34 Ru” was able to assemble a boxer engine with a volume of 1 cm700. True, it is based on the engine from Dnepr, but this does not change the essence.
