Soviet all-terrain vehicles for conquest of the Arctic - the most “correct” houses on tracks
Many Soviet citizens sought to conquer the unknown. And now the conversation is not at all about “construction projects of the century.” They went there primarily to earn money. Of course, there were romantics. But still, the bulk of them preferred more exotic professions. Geology, for example, but it’s better to go explore the depths of the oceans or the Arctic. The latter attracted brave Soviet boys and girls. But not everyone survived there. The living conditions were very difficult. And existence in a small team sometimes turned into hell. Although this is more about foreigners, this rarely happened in the USSR.

As for the technology, it worked very poorly in permafrost conditions. Yes, there were cars in the “northern” version, but they were not made for the Arctic. A way out of the situation was found quickly - they decided to use military tracked vehicles as a chassis for creating new vehicles. This was beneficial, because it was distinguished by its simplicity and unpretentiousness, and the engines installed on the same tanks were powerful. At first, polar expeditions received S-80 tractors. They turned out to be too heavy, with narrow tracks. Therefore, a modification of the S-100A was soon created specifically for the Arctic. But that was only the beginning. Then polar explorers began to receive unique models that resembled houses on wheels, or rather, on tracks. And they will talk about them in detail in a video on the “AUTO HISTORY” channel.
