Ride the first electric locomotive SBB Ae 3/6 II, which appeared a hundred years ago
During the First World War, many states faced a shortage of energy resources. This was especially true for coal reserves. The current situation became a huge problem for the railway industry. After all, the steam locomotives that were available everywhere at that time were oriented precisely to this kind of fuel. The pioneers in a radical solution to the problem were Swiss engineers, who were the first to propose models of electric rail transport. And although they were very primitive, from a modern point of view, at that time they turned out to be a decisive breakthrough.

This is how the SBB Ae 3/6 II was born - a universal single-frame locomotive with electric traction. The design was designed for alternating current voltage of 15 kV. About a hundred years ago, the Swiss Federal Highway (SBB) was partially electrified, which opened the way for the supply of such equipment, made in a brown color scheme, from 1921 to 1926. In total, sixty of the continent's first electric locomotives appeared in the mountainous country at that time, many of which successfully worked here until the early 70s. Today they have already become museum exhibits, but all fans of railway technology will be interested in watching the departure of legendary models of rail transport. This can be seen in the video from the channel “Genius at Work”.
