What picture appears to you when it comes to Mongolia? I immediately imagine endless deserts and a lonely, brave horse that does not submit to the elements. For a country that has one of the lowest population densities in the world (among large states), it seems to lack any modern civilization. We understand that in such conditions dynamic development is practically impossible. But there is also transport here. Even a railway one! Yes, on an area of 1,5 million square meters. km has its own network with a length of 1815 km. Of course, it is not electrified and consists of two isolated lines.
It is clear that it is impossible to do without rolling stock and locomotives with thermal traction. The latter uses a number of old Soviet models, as well as equipment from the GDR and China. Also, at the Ulaanbaatar depot, 10 units were modernized almost on their own (technical assistance came from the Kolomna Plant and the American company General Electric). The result was the Mongolian 2ZAGAL diesel locomotives. And even if this is just a deep modernization of the Soviet 2M62 and 2TE10M, a modest country can be proud of its own railway equipment. You can see her work with rolling stock in a video from the MONGOL RAIL channel.
