Carlos Tavares explained to reporters that the transition to the production of cars with electric motors is a huge financial investment that is not yet known whether it will pay off or not.
A small digression from the topic, for those who do not know what kind of concern Stellantis is. It emerged about a year ago through the merger of such giants as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA (Citroën, Peugeot, Opel and other brands). The concern is the fourth in the ranking of the largest automakers in the world.

All the talk about the fact that electric cars do not harm the environment is presented from a certain angle. Yes, during the operation of the engine of such a car, carbon dioxide emissions do not occur. But about how much harm is done to the environment in the production of running batteries, it is specially silent.
According to statistics, during the manufacture of a battery, as much carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere as an average gasoline car produces in 70 kilometers!
The second question is the cost of an electric car. These cars cost on average 2-3 times more than similar petrol models. Are customers willing to pay that kind of money? Public polls show that even in wealthy European countries, most drivers will not be able to afford such a new car!
But the same hybrids cost half the price of electric cars in production! They are economical, allow the owner to control the exhaust level himself in accordance with his position in life!

But politicians stubbornly bend their line. The result is already there - it is planned to completely abandon the production of cars with gasoline and diesel engines in Europe by 2035. Old cars after that are unlikely to be banned, but most likely they will be taxed so much that it will be cheaper to get rid of them!
According to Carlos Tavares, the rejection of cars with traditional internal combustion engines will lead to job cuts. The models will be maximally unified among themselves, which will force many production processes to be abandoned and, accordingly, people will lose their jobs.
The head of the Stellantis concern promised that he would try not to close factories in Europe and not deprive his employees of work. But at the same time, a reservation was made - if the economic situation allows it.
