Hyundai Creta on the secondary - why are there so many of them and is it worth considering this option at all?
On private classified sites, Hyundai Creta has been holding a leading position in terms of the number of offers for a couple of years. Naturally, the question arises - is it worth buying this model? Maybe the owners are in a hurry to get rid of the car because of its unreliability, or are there other reasons? Let's figure it out.

The car began to be produced in 2016 at a plant in St. Petersburg. The compact budget crossover immediately fell in love with the Russians and sales grew year after year. The peak year was 2019, when in terms of the number of cars sold, Creta was second only to Vesta, Granta and Kia Rio. Therefore, you should not be surprised at the large number of offers - there are a lot of cars, it is logical that they will be sold more often than others.

Motors and their features

The model was equipped with two gasoline engines, it will not be difficult to understand the pros and cons of each. The first is a 1,6-liter aspirated, designated G4FG. For front-wheel drive modifications, its power was 123 hp. s., and in all-wheel drive - 121. At the same time, there are no fundamental differences. It was developed back in 2011, it is a four-cylinder 16-valve engine with a chain drive and an aluminum head, designed for 92nd gasoline.

A simple unit, undemanding to the quality of fuel. With proper maintenance, 200 or more passes. The only caveat is that there are cases of destruction of the catalyst, which provokes scuffing on the cylinders and pistons. If the car is under warranty, the dealer will fix the problem, in other cases you will have to repair it at your own expense.

The engine cannot be called dynamic, at a maximum speed of less than 170 km per hour, acceleration to “hundreds” takes 12.3-12,9 seconds. In mixed mode, consumption ranges from 7 to 7,5 liters, on the highway you can meet 5,8-6,2, and in the city the figure rises to 9-10 liters.

The manufacturer recommends changing the oil every 15 km. But it is better to do this after 000, and after 10 km even more often (000-100 thousand).

The two-liter aspirated G4NA has a capacity of 149 hp. With. This is a sixteen-valve in-line four with a timing chain drive and an aluminum head. The engine is also designed for 92nd gasoline and is quite unpretentious. The increased power provides acceleration to 100 km in 11,3 seconds, which can hardly be called a good indicator. Fans of the drive "Crete" is clearly not suitable.

On the highway, the consumption is 6-6,5 liters, in the city - 10,2-10,6, and in the combined cycle from 7,5 to 8 liters.

These motors have a design flaw, due to which the risk of scoring on the cylinders increases several times. It is better to take a car manufactured after February 2017, they began to put nozzles on the power units to cool the pistons and this improved the situation. To minimize the risk of scuffing, do not overheat the motor. If the car is operated carefully, and the oil is changed on time, the engine runs about 200 thousand km.

There are two types of gearboxes on the model. The first is the six-speed manual M6CF1, which is quite reliable and durable. Cases of failure are rare and most often due to factory defects or certain flaws. When the maintenance schedule is followed, there are almost no problems. The clutch is not reliable, even on warranty cars, replacement cases cannot be called a rarity.

The release bearing requires special attention. some owners change it every 20-30 thousand km. The part itself costs a little, but to replace it you need to remove the box, and this is already a big cost for work. Therefore, it is not necessary to save on the quality of the node, it is better to take the original.

Automatic boxes are also six-speed. Paired with a two-liter unit, A6GF1-2 is used, and on machines with a 1,6-liter engine, A6MF2-2. Both options are reliable, working for at least 200 km, but only with good lubrication. Contamination and darkening of the oil provoke accelerated wear, so you need to monitor the condition of the composition.

The manufacturer positions the automatic transmission as maintenance-free, but it is better to change the oil every 60-70 thousand. Then the box will not create problems and you will not have to spend money on its repair and replacement.

It is worth noting another weak point - the shaft connecting the box and razdatka. If the intermediate shaft oil seal is damaged, moisture gets inside, which provokes licking of the splines. Therefore, it is necessary to inspect the assembly from the side of the right drive, if smudges appear there, measures should be taken immediately.

Steering, suspension and brakes

In the early years, the power steering was installed on the "Active" and "Start" versions, on the rest the electric power was used by default. Since July 2017, the electric option has become the only one.

In general, the system is not bad, but in cars produced in the early years, a common "sore" was the knock of the rack. Subsequently, the design was finalized and the problem disappeared.

The front suspension is simple, which reduces the cost of its maintenance. Photo: youtube.com

The McPherson type suspension is used in front, it is quite reliable and unpretentious. In versions with front-wheel drive, a torsion-type beam is installed at the rear, in all-wheel drive versions it is multi-link. It goes well, although it is somewhat harsh, but it withstands Russian roads without any problems.

Shock absorbers, stabilizer struts and wheel bearings nurse 80 thousand or more. Ball joints are usually changed after a hundred thousand mileage, about the same resource for steering tips.

The brakes are disc, ventilated at the front, standard at the rear. They work well, except for souring of the guides on the rear calipers in the cars of the first years of assembly can be distinguished from the sores. Hyundai owners often complain about weak wheel studs that burst when tightened. If on Crete it is easy to change them from behind, then you have to disassemble the hub from the front, which almost always leads to failure of the bearing, and these are additional repair costs.

Body

The outer panels are made of cold rolled galvanized sheet. The assembled body is not galvanized, it is treated by cataphoresis priming. Like all Koreans, Hyundai has a small thickness of body elements, so you can bend a fender or hood when pushing a car out of a snowdrift or mud, if you are not careful.

The body is not rigid. Photo: youtube.com

Beetles or even pockets of corrosion on the back cover are common. Body seams are often not of the highest quality, paint swells on rolling and rust appears over time. It all depends on the specific car, but such a problem is typical for Russian-made cars. I had to examine several options made in India, everything is neat and even there.

The layer of paint is also not always uniform, so you should polish the car very carefully so as not to wipe the varnish. It is worth treating the bottom, arches and cavities with a good anticorrosive agent, this will extend the life of the body.

Having removed the protection on the bottom, you will find that the metal is covered only with primer, it is better to process it. Photo: youtube.com

Broken copies rust much faster, it is better to spend extra money on checking with a thickness gauge or to involve a specialist. It is also important to control the gaps between the elements. If they "do not dance", it is better to look for another option.

Salon

Quite unpretentious, one might even say nondescript, which is a characteristic feature of budget-class cars. The usual design in a modern style without memorable details, while everything is ergonomic, the controls are conveniently located. There is enough space both in front and behind, which is important for a large family.

Unpretentiousness - this is how you can characterize the salon in one word. Photo: youtube.com

The seats are harsh, the front ones do not have pronounced lateral support, and the back gets tired on them on a long journey. The plastic on the panel and skins is hard, scratches over time, which worsens the already not the most attractive look. Wide thresholds are inconvenient when landing, clothes are often dirty about them.

Soundproofing leaves much to be desired. Most of the noise comes from the wheel arches, if you process them, the cabin will become quieter. But for a good result, complete soundproofing is required. "Crickets" are also a common thing. Plastic creaking is found on most machines in which the fastening points of the panel and other cladding elements are not glued with a special tape.

The equipment even in the basic versions is not bad, but when choosing a used car, you should look for better options. The more extra options, the more comfortable the car and the easier it is to sell it later.

Results

Should I take "Cretu" on the secondary market? The option is definitely worth attention, but only subject to careful selection and verification of all the nuances described above. This is a car for every day with a harsh, but resourceful suspension and a large interior.

Restyling is almost the same, except for the modified radiator grille. Photo: youtube.com

As for prices, the average cost of a first-generation car is 1,38 million, the model is getting cheaper by 6% per year. The term of sale of the basic configuration is 24 days, with options - less than 20 days. Restyled cars cost more than 1,6 million, an interesting feature is that they have practically not fallen in price.

With runs over 200 thousand, you need to be prepared for any “surprises” - from replacing a motor or gearbox to body work. Here's how lucky.
