The third generation Tiguan - VW has found something to surprise

The new generation Tiguan is in the final stages of development. There is very little time left before the change of generations, and the pre-production prototype is already “cutting circles” on closed tracks, covering its appearance with a camouflage livery.


The premiere of the compact SUV will take place very soon - at the end of September this year. Moreover, the event will be held as part of a corporate party for employees of the automobile plant in Wolfsburg. For this reason, many expect the appearance of the Tiguan 3 in showrooms over the next year.

Exterior

Visually, the Tiguan will most likely get narrower headlights and a heavily trimmed radiator grille. Such solutions will in many ways resemble the design of the ID.4. Below, in the front bumper, there is an impressive air intake with horizontal slats, framed by other air intakes. Looking at the profile as a whole, the rather squat shape of the car is striking.


A solid rebate at the level of the door handles is lowered in favor of visually highlighted wheel arches. The design of the crossover looks more rounded and organic than straightforward and swift. The wheelbase is likely to be slightly increased, and this may indicate a more spacious interior.


Rear overhang features also suggest that the new Tiguan's trunk will be more spacious. As for the rear optics, we are definitely waiting for narrower taillights.

Interior

This part of the car is still not available for evaluation, and all that could be found out is the large center display on the front console. By itself, it resembles the equipment from ID.7 like two drops of water. How true this is is still in question, but many also caught the similarity in decisions with the restyled Golf 8.


The multimedia system has definitely become more comfortable than in the second generation Tiguan. Now it combines fixed speed dial keys and a 15-inch touchscreen display into one. Five favorite functions can be set at the top, for example for driving modes, music or electronic assistants. Another bar at the bottom is responsible for climate control, and it can also be freely programmed.


In addition, they seriously worked on the quality of the material. Dashboard trim comes with double stitched piping.

Tiguan 3 on the road: it makes everything better

The prototype runs around the track with a 2.0 hp 150 TDI engine. With. In the specifications of the new Tiguan, comfort is a top priority. On the one hand, it must be maneuverable, with as little roll as possible. Agree, this is not so easy to achieve because of the high body structure. And all solutions in this paradigm are by no means budgetary.


On the other hand, the manufacturer also wanted to get the comfort of a sedan, able to smooth out all the bumps in the road, including winter ice on the roads, at the touch of a button. For this reason, the engineers used the "DCC Pro" adaptive suspension with two valves instead of one for damping. As a result, the new Tiguan received a 15-position adjustable suspension.

Suspension features of the new Tiguan

The rebound and compression damping control in the shocks is faster. Both can be controlled separately from each other. This guarantees low suspension noise and a minimum of vibration transmission to the body. This decision clearly benefits the dynamics and is a novelty for cars of this class. Previously, this technology was used only in multi-link models of premium luxury cars. Tiguan 3 will be the first representative of the compact class in Volkswagen to receive such an upgrade.


All 15 chassis adjustment modes are controlled via the center monitor. Pressing a button and you have a sports car that feels every stone between the road and the tire tread. And if you want, the Tiguan will rush over the track as gently as, say, the elite Maybach. There has never been such a wide range of suspension settings in compact crossovers.

MQB - ICE and plug-in hybrids

Without completely getting rid of engines with a carbon footprint, the new Tiguan will still receive hybrid versions. Moreover, in the MQB hybrid platform, engines well-known to the owners will be used.

We have already said that the prototype costs 2.0 TDI. Along with it, of course, there will be a 2.0 TSI and plug-in hybrids with two power levels: 204 and 272 hp. With. Both hybrid options will be paired with an 18,5 kWh battery. Mileage without starting the internal combustion engine is extremely limited - only 13 km. But working in conjunction will give excellent traction power to a compact crossover.

Execution price

Experts expect a price tag of no less than 35 euros for the base Tiguan. How much they will ask for hybrid versions is still a mystery. Currently, the cost of a restyled second-generation model in the basic configuration is 000 euros (32 million rubles). They hope to hear more precise figures at the September presentation.


There are fears that VW will remain intriguing until the first appearance of the car in showrooms, fueling the already considerable interest of fans in the new generation of Tiguan. By the way, management plans to start shipping to dealers in early 2024.
