Mercedes-Benz S-class W126 - an unattainable dream of the early 90s
The second-generation Mercedes S-Class debuted in 1979. The fact that such cars exist, Soviet drivers did not know then. No, they knew about Mercedes, of course. First, all televisions were watched regularly. Secondly, German cars came across in the USSR in the 50s - they were taken out of Germany in 1945. Thirdly, Soviet citizens were "readers", and in books from foreign authors such cars came across periodically. And lastly, in Moscow in 1973, an official representation of Mercedes-Benz was opened. They serviced government and consular vehicles mainly. Already in the 80s in the capital, Mercedes came across quite often, even on “private” numbers. How Soviet citizens managed to buy them is a topic for a separate study.

In the meantime, we offer just to recall the first known S-class Mercedes-Benz already to the Russians. Although, in our country they jumped over it - the W140, also known as the "Six Hundredth" and "Boar", became a legend and the hero of numerous jokes. The W126 remained in the shadows - simple, and wealthy Russians still could not afford it, and the "powers that be" preferred more modern models. The author of the channel "AcademeG" found one of the few surviving Mercedes-Benz W126. At least the car is running. What is the S-class from the 80s - you will find out by watching the video.
