Everyone has long been accustomed to the fact that the Ural Automobile Plant produces bonneted trucks. They are distinguished by high cross-country ability and characteristic appearance. A bright representative of classic cars from this manufacturer is Ural-4320.


The main problem of heavy bonnet trucks is low maneuverability. For the military, this is not an argument, but when using cars for civilian purposes, this is a big minus. The extra two meters of the hood can become critical in narrow streets. This is true for both freight and public utilities. The latter have to maneuver in the yards, often crowded with cars.

Therefore, Ural lost to KAMAZ - customers chose trucks from the last manufacturer. Although, judging by the reviews of Russian drivers, cars from Miass are more reliable.

The appearance of the cabover Ural-6370 is a natural process of development and evolution. By releasing this family, the manufacturer was able to become not just a competitor to KAMAZ in the class. Bonnet models are still produced in Miass, which means that customers have a choice.

Ural-6370 combines the reliability of Miass trucks, modern layout and high cross-country ability. The YaMZ-652/653 diesel engine has a resource of about 600 thousand kilometers. But if you service the motor on time and with high-quality consumables, then these numbers can exceed the million mark.

Short story


The cabover Ural-6370 debuted in 2010, in the summer. Already in September, the model began to be mass-produced.

Ural-6370 was in demand both in the army and in the civilian market. They are often bought by oil and gas workers. On the chassis of the model, shift insulated buses are made for them, “flights” for repairmen servicing equipment. Thanks to the 6x6 wheel formula and high cross-country ability, cars are able to get to places where there have never been roads, regardless of the time of year.

Features of the model


Ural-6370 is designed to operate in a wide climatic range. Cars do not overheat in the heat of +40 °C, and in winter it is warm in the cabin and the engine starts down to -45 °C.

As a rule, "Urals" are bought for operation in the harsh conditions of Siberia. These trucks are also used in quarries in the development of minerals.

Dump trucks Ural-6370 have an additional index of 1121. Their carrying capacity is 19,5 tons. Truck tractors are capable of towing trailers weighing up to 22 tons.

Initially, the Ural-6370 was announced as a car with a high proportion of foreign components. This made it possible to attract potential customers. The engine was installed by our own production - YaMZ-652, but it was being finalized in cooperation with Renault Trucks.

The gearbox was installed from the German company ZF. After European manufacturers terminated contracts with the Miass Automobile Plant in 2022, they had to look for a new partner. As a result, we managed to find a manual transmission from the Chinese company Shaft-Gear. It is also 16-speed, like the unit from ZF, but it costs less.

I had to abandon a number of other foreign components. It is difficult to say what has already been replaced - some parts are still in warehouses, they tried to find something of domestic production.

The maximum speed of loaded Ural-6370 is declared at the level of 80 km/h. This is done on purpose so as not to overload the engine with excessive load.

Cabin


Externally cabover "Ural" is more like the classic KAMAZ and MAZ. "Thank you" for this follows the cabin. It is double, has a full bed. Drivers note that the level of comfort in the Ural-6370 cab is higher than that of classic models from a manufacturer from Miass.

Due to the absence of a hood, visibility is much better than that of the Ural-4320. Of course, in the event of a serious accident, these extra two meters will help save the driver's health and even save a life. But given that trucks are usually operated in the harsh conditions of Siberia, and not on the highways, this is not particularly relevant.

The cab is tilting - in order to get to the engine, hydraulics are used. Initially, it was assumed that the drive would be electric, but then they abandoned it.

Cabin Ural-6370 is not original. This is an Iveco development - the Ural Automobile Plant has been cooperating with the Italian concern since the beginning of the 90s.

The truck cab has hydraulic shock absorbers - this provides a decent level of comfort when driving on poor quality roads. The driver is provided with an adjustable air seat.

Ural-6370 trucks are equipped with diesel six-cylinder engines of the YaMZ-650 series. These motors were developed on the basis of Renault power units. All engines have a working volume of 11,12 liters.

From the beginning of production, the truck was equipped with Euro-4 engines - this is YaMZ-652 with a capacity of 412 hp. With. Now Ural-6370 is equipped with more modern engines - YaMZ-653. The power of the new power unit is higher - 420 hp. With.

The motors have already proven themselves in the most severe operating conditions. Due to the presence of a powerful pre-heater, engines start easily in cold weather. This system is able to work together with the standard cabin heater, so that the driver will be warm even at an outside temperature of -45 ° C.

Other technical features


Ural-6370 is equipped with a mechanical transfer case. Initially, it was from ZF, now they are installing units from another manufacturer.

All axles of the car are leading - this ensures high cross-country ability. Behind there is a blocking of interaxal and interwheel differentials with pneumatic control.

Ural-6370 is based on a solid frame of the original design. Its main feature is spars of variable height.
Truck suspension dependent. Everywhere there are semi-elliptical springs. In front, they work in tandem with telescopic shock absorbers. Behind the suspension with jet rods designed to dampen vibrations, there is an anti-roll bar.

Steering - integral type, of course, with hydraulic booster. Brakes - three-circuit, pneumatic, as befits heavy trucks.

Ura-6370 is a fairly new model. But there are already reviews from drivers on it. There are no complaints about the reliability and maintainability of trucks - these are typical Urals.

The build quality raises questions - drivers have to prepare new cars for the first flight on their own, and very carefully. If this is not done, then a breakdown may occur on the road. Foreign manufacturers do not allow themselves such liberties - they value the client.

But the Ural Automobile Plant, especially now that foreign brands have left the Russian market, can relax - they have few competitors. For the same KAMAZ, the build quality is even worse, judging by the feedback from drivers.

Although, if you understand the nuances, you can find out that most breakdowns of domestic heavy trucks are due to non-compliance with operating rules. Foreign cars are trying to save, and for Russian cars, overload is rather the norm.

The Iveco cabin is generally praised for its spaciousness and comfort. The main complaint is the presence of a rear window. Drivers operating cars in Siberia claim that it is not necessary for review, but the level of thermal insulation is reduced because of this.

Ural-6370 is a worthy successor to the traditions of all-wheel drive trucks from Miass. Of course, it does not look as brutal as the bonnet models, but it is no worse than them in terms of performance.
