Chery offers a crossover under the Kaiyi sub-brand - it costs from 1,05 million rubles

Chery Automobile has started accepting orders for a new budget crossover under the Kaiyi brand. This mid-size model is currently offered only in the domestic Chinese market. The cost for such a car is quite budgetary - from 1,05 million rubles translated into our money.


Kaiyi Kunlun will be offered in 11 trim levels. So far, only options with turbo-petrol engines are available for order, but after a while the manufacturer promises hybrid versions as well. There are no Kaiyi Kunlun electric cars, but it is possible that they will also appear if there is demand.

The crossover has a stylish appearance. The designers decided to create a youth model with a hint of aggressive sportiness. Length - 4,7 meters with a wheelbase of 2,8 m. This is almost the same as the latest generation of the popular Korean Hyundai Santa Fe crossover. It is with this car that Kaiyi Kunlun will compete in China.


Thanks to the large interior, the crossover is offered in both five and seven-seater versions. Naturally, the third row is cramped - only children can be accommodated there with amenities.

Already in the basic configuration, Kaiyi Kunlun will receive an autonomous driver assistance system. Due to the possibility of updating over wireless networks, assistants will be improved periodically. The manufacturer promises that the level of autonomy is planned to be increased.

Under the hood of the base Kaiyi Kunlun is a 1,6-liter turbo-petrol engine. It develops 197 hp. with. It is for a car with such an engine that they ask from 1,05 million rubles. With us, for this money, you can only buy a Lada Granta in a “top-end” configuration, inferior to the basic Chinese crossover.


For lovers of dynamics and high speeds, a 2,0-liter engine is offered. It "gives out" a power of 254 hp. with. If these cars are ever officially delivered to Russia, then the engine will be deformed so that it fits into the framework of up to 250 hp. with. All motors are paired with a robotic gearbox.

Hybrid versions of the Kaiyi Kunlun, which are currently being worked on, will receive powertrains based on 1,5-liter gasoline engines. Together with them one or two electric motors will work, depending on the version. The power of hybrids is from 204 to 367 hp. with. For the most "top" version, they will ask for 2,33 million rubles. Only on electricity, it will be able to travel up to 260 km.

By the way, in 2023 Chery Automobile plans to release several more models under the Kaiyi brand.
