Omoda C5 - features of a new crossover on the Russian market

Chinese crossovers in Russia are in demand. This is especially true now, when American, European, Japanese and even Korean brands have left our country. Yes, and before they were taken well - the price and rich equipment decided.


The Omoda brand appeared in Russia recently, so far with only one model, but in the future they promise to start a whole line. While dealers offer to order only C5. It will not be possible to buy it in the "here and now" mode - only by appointment.

Actual prices for today start at 2,07 million rubles and end at around 2,34 million. They fell in price, by the way, at the start of sales they asked for more.


By the way, Omoda is a sub-brand of the popular Chery company in Russia. For some reason, we decided to sell these cars in this way.

What versions of Chery Omoda C5 are

In China, the crossover debuted with a 1,6-liter turbocharged engine developing 197 hp. With. This is the most powerful modification of Chery Omoda C5.

A little later, cars with 1,5-liter engines for 147 and 156 hp appeared. With. MHEV and PHEV hybrids were the last to debut.

All Chery Omoda C5 cars with 1,6-liter engines are equipped with robotic seven-speed gearboxes. Versions with 1,5 liter engines. got CVTs.

In the Russian market, Omoda C5 is offered only with a capacity of 147 hp. With. Accordingly, the engine under the hood has a working volume of 1,5 liters. This power was not chosen by chance - the cars will be delivered from China assembled, so you need to fit up to 150 hp. With. – then customs payments are lower.


The drive for Russia is only front, however, there are no 4x4 versions even in China. Dealers promise a five-year warranty or 150 kilometers, whichever comes first.

A 1,5-liter turbocharged engine, which has no alternative for Russia, is designed for AI-95 gasoline, but AI-92 can sometimes be used - the manufacturer allows it.

So far, there is no talk of any localization of Omoda C5 in our country. Most likely, this will not happen in the coming years - Chery is cheaper to import finished cars from China.

Appearance of the model

The designers of the Omoda C5 clearly focused on compact Japanese crossovers, most likely Toyota. Although, the appearance of the model also has its own features - for example, a wide radiator grille, turning into a bumper. Her design is chaotic at first glance, but creates a strange 3D effect. It is difficult to explain it, it is better to look and feel for yourself.

The designers really managed to create a beautiful crossover. Most likely, they played on contrasts, combining the streamlining of the body, the clarity of the edges and the curvature of some elements.

By the way, at the expense of accidents - the manufacturer claims that in crash tests Euro-NCAP, C-NCAP and IIHS Omoda C5 received 5 stars each.

Inside, the Chinese crossover is solid, modern and simply beautiful. Of course, if you look closely, you notice the budget of finishing materials - the same interior made of artificial leather. But the panels fit perfectly, nothing creaks anywhere.


Attention is drawn to a single unit, consisting of a digital tidy and multimedia system. Front seats with a hint of sport - there is lateral support.

Even in the simplest configuration there will be dual-zone climate control with a fine filter. The system is controlled by touch buttons.
Chinese manufacturers also took care of the winter adaptation of their car to Russian conditions. The basic package includes heated seats, windshield, steering wheel and washer nozzles.

The side windows of the front row are multi-layered, which reduces the noise level in the cabin. Naturally, all windows open due to electric drives, and there are closers and built-in protection against pinching.

The back row is designed for three passengers, but it is more convenient to move around here together, lowering the wide armrest in the middle. It provides cup holders and two heating buttons, which is in all versions except the basic one.

But the dimensions of the luggage compartment are not encouraging - only 378 liters. I had to sacrifice usable space for the sake of design and space for rear sofa passengers. However, the Omoda C5 is an urban crossover and is not expected to carry building materials or 10 sacks of potatoes.


The tailgate in all trim levels, except for the basic one, has an electric drive. By the way, especially for Russia, the manufacturer supplied the crossover with a full-size spare wheel.

Technical features

Omoda C5 is based on the popular T1X platform. To make it clear, it is on it that most models from the Chery concern are based. This is the entire line of Tiggo crossovers and premium Exeed.

The body is load-bearing, the front is a simple McPherson-type suspension, the rear is a torsion beam. Brakes on all wheels disc. The handbrake is electronic, so it will be easy to use it even for fragile women.

The acceleration dynamics of the Omoda C5 is declared at the level of 9,9 seconds to 100 km / h. Top speed is electronically limited to 195 km/h.


Claimed average fuel consumption is 7,1 liters. In the city "leaves" 9,5 liters. gasoline, according to the technical documentation. If we are equal to the reviews of the owners of other Chery crossovers with the same one and a half liter engines, then the real fuel consumption can reach 12 liters. But this is in large cities with an aggressive driving style.

Advantages and disadvantages of the model

The first plus of the Chinese crossover is the appearance. The car really turned out beautiful - this cannot be taken away. Although, there is one drawback inherent in most models from the Middle Kingdom - the wheels seem too small in relation to the dimensions of the body. Most likely, this was done to save fuel or reduce the cost of the model.

The 1,5 turbo petrol engine has already proven itself in other Chery cars. Despite the small volume, the resource of this power unit, in theory, should be about 250 km.

It is still difficult to say something concrete - for most owners of Chery cars, they have not yet passed even 100 km. But atmospherics with a working volume of 000 liters from this Chinese brand overcome the bar of 1,5 thousand km.


Rich equipment and low cost for the class are also undoubted advantages of Omoda C5. The grumbling of skeptics is shattered by the five-year warranty that the manufacturer gives.

Few cons:

✅ Outdated rear suspension

Although, the last point for someone can be a plus. After all, the structurally simpler, the lower the cost of repairs later.


A CVT gearbox for Russian drivers, especially experienced ones, is also a minus. It is treated with caution in our country.

There are few places where they take variators to repair, and it costs inadequate money. But there is hope that the node is problem-free, and the guarantee inspires peace of mind.

Omoda C5 has every chance of becoming popular in Russia. The only misunderstanding can be caused by the price difference in our and Chinese markets. In China, the cost of the model starts from 800 rubles. This is more than twice as expensive as ours.
