Before you is a Soviet legend: one of the first LuAZ 969 SUVs. Its prototypes appeared back in 1964. But in the historical aspect, it "lit up" not only for this reason. This is the first passenger front-wheel drive car in the USSR, and not the VAZ 2108, as many are sure. Initially, the SUV was produced only with a "front end", the development of the rear axle was taken up later. And only a few years later an all-wheel drive car rolled off the assembly line.
The front axle is constantly working on the SUV, and the rear axle is turned on as needed. And it happened very often! Soviet roads "demanded" a good SUV, and they got it. Take a look at the video, how confidently and even famously, the usual serial LuAZ overcomes the peat mess in the forest. And this is where the powerful ZIL 131 barely passed. Despite the modest dimensions of LuAZ and the development time of the model (more than half a century has passed!), Judging by the video offered by the Don’t Brake channel, the Soviet SUV is in no way inferior to the vaunted Western jeeps, "Tahoe", Cherokee, all-wheel drive GAZ, "Niva" and even "military" UAZ.
