The age-old question, which traditionally has two answers. What to buy for the winter: regular friction tires or tires with spikes? Constant disputes and reasoning on this topic do not give a clear answer. It is clear that on bare asphalt and at near-zero temperatures, these two types of tires behave completely differently. But how are things at -20°C?
On the AutoreviewRu channel, we decided to give a detailed answer on this issue. The guys waited for the real Russian winter. When the thermometer was 20 degrees below zero, they took two sets of tires with spikes and two sets of Velcro, and went to the landfill.
And so, in real conditions, test runs began with the measurement of the braking distance. Each type of tire was tested on bare ice and clean, frozen asphalt. Speed indicators are also interesting here, so the first starting speed mark was determined at 25-27 km / h. The first test subject was the good old Hakka R2. On the ice, the car braked to a complete stop in 15 m. What results were shown by other participants in the comparison, including at a speed of 80 km / h, you will find out by watching the video to the end.
