Autor is a Czech bike from China

In its more than 200-year history, the bicycle has become perhaps the most conservative means of transport. After all, if you watch films or shootings of half a century and much more prescription, then what will we see? That's right, almost the same familiar silhouette with two wheels, saddle, handlebars, pedals and chain. Of course, there were minor structural changes in the structure of the saddle, pedals or racks, but they can not be called significant, let alone drastic.


We can say that this stability has several main reasons. The first one is pretty banal. It seems that the optimal design of this two-wheeled transport simply does not need major improvements. So to say, “they don’t look for good from good.” There is another. What is a bicycle? Today it is a transport for the poor or those who want to have fun and spend time on the road with health benefits. In principle, neither the first nor the second option has significant commercial interest. And where there is no movement of funds, there is no investment in development.


One way or another, but the ordinary bike rider does not care about these thoughts, assumptions and conclusions. He just sits down, pedals and goes where necessary. However, today there are those who see the opportunity for the development and promotion of creative innovations in the production of bicycle equipment. This is how vehicles with an unusual design or unusual purpose appear. Still, the main direction in the development of bicycle production: the production of products with improved quality and a margin of wear of parts and mechanisms. Here you can add a more advanced drive design.

Pandemic as a driving force in the sale of bicycles

Road and sports bicycle equipment of the Czech company Autor has gradually won the trust of buyers in the post-Soviet space. In fact, it has long been known that the recognized European leaders in this regard are the same states that dominate cycling competitions. It:

A huge jump in demand for bicycles across Europe occurred in the midst of a pandemic. The same can be said about equipment for walking on two-wheeled vehicles. It would seem that it's time to add momentum and meet the growing demand. But this turned out to be very difficult to do in a situation where logistics with Asian countries (primarily China) was severely disrupted. So instead of accelerating, there was a slowdown in production, the echoes of which are visible to this day.


True, this problem is relevant for companies whose working facilities are located on the territory of European countries. This affected such a Czech manufacturer as Leader Fox. The factory management is even forced to adjust the characteristics of bicycles, abandoning models (or modifying them), in which most of the parts are made in China. The situation is quite different for Autor. After all, this company has its own special specifics of work, which we will discuss a little below.

What are Autor bikes?

Political changes in the world at the beginning of the 90s made cooperation with Western and Asian partners more accessible to Czech commercial companies. Then there are several brands that are popular in today's Europe and produce various bicycle equipment. During this period, bicycle designers began to pay more attention to the comfort of riding a bicycle and developed advanced technologies. The latter greatly contributed to lowering the price of bikes and increasing their widespread popularity.


Some time before this, American businessmen decided to significantly reduce the cost of production by transferring all their bicycle manufacturing facilities to China. The advent of modern technology to the hardworking Chinese, over time, made them the sole leaders in this field. And it was here that the production of bicycle frames made of aluminum alloy under the index "6061" spread. Cheap, lightweight and durable construction has revolutionized the bicycle industry.

That is why a company of enterprising Czechs decided not to invent ... well, you know what! And just go to the Chinese and import quality bikes from the Middle Kingdom. Moreover, one of them, Martin Galena, already had experience in selling Chinese bicycles in what was then Czechoslovakia. But this project did not provide for the banal delivery and resale of the fruits of someone else's labor. The Czechs, in turn, took up the technical side of the issue and assumed certain design obligations.



After such a promising start, the Czech side formed a design team that took up the advanced development of Czech Autor bikes. Of course, this took into account that production will continue to be maintained in the territory of the People's Republic of China.


After conquering the local market in the very first years of the company's operation, it reached the European level. In this, the Czechs were helped by the fact that the quality of the goods, designed in their country, and produced by the obligatory Chinese, turned out to be on top. But the price, due to the low cost and outsourced production capacity, in turn, was more than affordable. Pragmatic Europeans decided “why pay more” and the sales of the Czech company went up sharply. Moreover, over time, auxiliary production was added to the main production: sportswear and accessories.

Factors contributing to the success of the Autor brand

More than a quarter of a century later, under the Autor brand, several hundred thousand different models of bicycle equipment are produced annually. In addition to the classics, there are other options for bikes:

The Czech authors did not forget about the younger generation and the weaker sex. In addition, there are simpler and cheaper models for beginner bikers. And there is also more expensive transport, suitable for demanding professionals. Such a good range has made Autor one of the European leaders in the production of bicycle equipment. To date, Autor bicycles have confidently conquered the markets of Russia, Ukraine and other neighboring countries. For example, the simplest of them can be purchased for 17 thousand rubles. At the same time, a real professional bike will cost the future owner 270 thousand (more expensive models may appear very soon). Another side contributing to the popularity of Autor can be called its constant active participation in sports competitions.

Title sponsor of the competition

As already mentioned, Czech cyclists have always been among the European elite. Therefore, it is not surprising that the company spends huge amounts of money to support competitions, being the title sponsor of more than a dozen different cycling marathons.


Back in the mid-90s, the downhill team of the company took part in competitions. In 2005, the Author Gang cycling team appeared. In the same year, they released a special model for the Era marathon. A year later - carbon road CA7706 and CA6606. Three years later, five factory cyclists became participants in the Olympics. The best achievement was the 1st place taken by Michal Prokop in 2006 at the World Championship.
