Crawler military truck - ZIS-42
The Soviet Union was famous for its off-road military trucks. Such monsters as GAZ-66, ZIL-131, "Urals" and KrAZas amaze the imagination with both brutal appearance and off-road qualities. The only problem of a number of Soviet models in the modern world is the huge consumption of gasoline. Fortunately, at least the Ural-4320 is diesel.

But there was a time when in the USSR trucks were the same type for everyone - civilian and military. They thought about cross-country models in the Soviet-Finnish war. In difficult off-road conditions, it turned out that standard trucks were no good, especially in winter. Looking at the patency of tanks, the Soviet designers came up with the idea to combine tracked vehicles with a car chassis.

Many such prototypes were released, but most of them were unfinished. The ZIS-42, which was produced from 1942 to 1946, turned out best of all. In total, more than 6,3 thousand of these trucks were assembled, which were used as artillery tractors. Surprisingly, several ZIS-42s have been preserved to this day. Of course, the restorers had to work hard on them, but the result is pleasing. It is about such a caterpillar truck that the author of the Ivan Zenkevich PRO Cars channel will tell in his video.
