Many experts in the field of Soviet automotive technology admit that the IZH-2125 had the most attractive design from the entire line of models. Those who caught those distant times remember perfectly well what a “combi” is. This is a Soviet invention for naming cars with a liftback body. Admit it, it sounds much cooler than the English counterpart! I first heard it in my deep childhood and imagined a cool (by Soviet standards), fast and powerful car. In principle, "IZH-combi" was such. The participation of this brand is known not only in rallies and classic races, but also in winter track competitions.
The original car, which appeared about half a century ago, was developed on the basis of the Moskvich-412, which was popular at that time. The last trend of the 60s in automotive Europe was the hatchback or liftback model. Specialists have conducted research and proved their much greater practicality in terms of loading (compared to station wagons) and the volume of cargo carried (compared to sedans). It was on the wave of such popularity that IZH-2125 appeared. And its release lasted about a quarter of a century, having survived the collapse of the USSR. An excellent review of the model is presented in the video from the Ivan Zenkevich PRO Cars channel.
