All-terrain vehicle ZIL-167 - ahead of its time, but never went into production
What powerful machines were not built in the USSR! Single-axle tractors, all-terrain vehicles with a jet engine, and in the same “family” you can safely write down the ZIL-167, released in a single copy in 1963. At that time, a wheeled vehicle was required that could transport workers, cargo and not get stuck anywhere. We found "one hundred and sixty-seventh" and decided to examine in detail.

On the car, like an armored personnel carrier, a pair (one per board) of seven-liter engines with a capacity of 180 "horses" each was installed. Two engines in one car today is hardly surprising, but what can you say about six (!) Gas tanks with a volume of 900 liters? Why so many? In the video on the "PrivetTachka" channel, the author explains in detail why there are so many containers.

The all-terrain vehicle was planned to be launched into a series, so it was carefully tested in conditions of extreme heat and the same cold. Based on the results obtained, changes were made to the design. For several years of testing, the car traveled over 20000 km off-road and got stuck only 4 times! Of these, in three cases they managed on their own, and only once did they have to call for help from a caterpillar all-terrain vehicle. The car turned out to be “overly” modern: suffice it to say that not only the body, but also the rims were made of fiberglass. But these are not all technical solutions that are ahead of their time - watch the video!
