If you're getting the impression of déjà vu, it's because Ford previously unveiled the big-outside, roomy-inside three-row Equator in March 2021. Despite the fact that the new SUV has the same name, according to Chinese media, it is built on a different platform and is a unique car. The size of its wheelbase is 2765 mm, which is as much as 140 mm shorter than that of the large “brother” that was released in March.

Even though there are technically big differences between the two models with the same name, both SUVs use almost the same design language. The Equator Sport has the same large front grille and slim LED headlights. The side profile is instantly imprinted in memory thanks to the wide wheel arches, inside which wheels with a radius of 20 inches are hidden, and remembered by the plastic door lining. At the rear, the cars are also similar to each other except for one detail - the smaller model is devoid of the strip that connects the headlights.
Inside the spacious cabin of the Chinese SUV, there is enough space to comfortably accommodate five passengers, while the larger Equator is designed for six or seven seats. The dashboard design has the same dual-screen layout.

Under the hood of the novelty, intended for the Chinese market, is a 1,5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, which Ford says is completely new and its first use in a production model. The peak power of this unit is 170 hp. with a torque of 260 Nm. It works in tandem with an automatic transmission, and at the moment it is not known whether it sends power only to the front wheels or to both axles at once. The declared speed of the SUV reaches 180 kilometers per hour.
There is no need to talk about the cost of the Ford Equator Sport yet, besides, it is not very logical to consider it in rubles - the car will be sold for Chinese currency. However, the car is of interest as an attempt to adapt the American SUV to Chinese conditions.
