"Zhiguli" or "Moskvich" - the "eternal struggle" of the Soviet classics
Zhiguli did not immediately dominate the Soviet market in terms of quantity and prestige. Previously, the first place in terms of accessibility was occupied by Moskvich. This refers to cars that were produced both in Izhevsk and Moscow at AZLK.

After the construction of the plant in Togliatti, Moskvich gradually turned into a second-class car. The Soviet citizen wanted to get exactly the Zhiguli - at least a "penny", and even a "three-ruble note" or "Shokha" - in general, the ultimate desire. For wealthy villagers "provided" "Niva".

But was Moskvich so bad? In a number of parameters, he surpassed the VAZ models. And for the most part, this concerned the most important components: the engine and suspension. The first one has long proved itself from the best side in terms of reliability and not only. For example, a properly adjusted engine worked much quieter than the Zhiguli engine, although VAZ also had instances where it was possible to understand that the engine was running only by the fading oil pressure lamp. But the “Moscow” unit also had its drawbacks: for example, an oil filter poorly located below. In the absence of protection, he could easily break off after falling into a serious hole. But if we talk about the suspension, then the Moskvich turned out to be stronger and more durable than its rival. In addition, the rural version of the AZLK is designed for 76th gasoline - and this is one of the reasons why many preferred this particular model: there were no problems in the USSR with practically free fuel, which was used by trucks.
