On the day when the 37th anniversary of the Soviet pioneers was celebrated, another significant event took place. A green light was given to a new project called Meteor. It was a completely new design of marine hydrofoils. In 1960, the first successful tests took place. The novelty was liked not only by the famous aircraft designer A. Tupolev, but also by the head of the Soviet state, Nikita Sergeevich Khrushchev. Very soon, another similar vessel appeared - Meteor-2, which became part of the Volga United Shipping Company. Over four decades, more than 400 boats were built, which were sold to two dozen different countries.
Unfortunately, over time, the project was closed, and the production of amazing marine equipment was discontinued. Active steps are now being taken to revive it. "Meteor 120R" became a continuation of the "342" project and is capable of high-speed passenger transportation along river and reservoir routes. Its maximum capacity is 120 people (including four crew members). At the end of May 2022, the second such vessel was launched.
