Electric cars will wait - internal combustion engines without a crankshaft
The engine does not have not only a crankshaft, but also connecting rods. Of the usual attributes, only pistons with a cylinder. The idea is not new: it is enough to recall the rotary engine, which was once installed on cars. He quickly gained momentum, was distinguished by power and therefore was used in police and police cars. However, gluttony and a small resource "did not let" this type of internal combustion engine into the market.

The first engine without a crankshaft and connecting rods, where the pistons are “tightly” fixed on one rod, was demonstrated by an Australian engineer back in 1995. In an innovative motor, torque is transmitted using a three-cam mechanism, and the pistons, as in a boxer unit, move towards each other. The channel "INFLATED WHEELS" shows in detail the structure of this strange engine. And yet it works!

It is worth adding: the piston begins to move, creating pressure, after passing 5% of the total stroke, while on a conventional internal combustion engine, the connecting rod must pass about 40% almost “idle”. The motor shows good power already at low speeds and starts to work at a lower pressure than in a classic engine. Why do we need such a “cam” motor, what other advantages does it have for a car? There are a lot of them: for example, the efficiency of a simple internal combustion engine is 15%, and that shown in the video is 37%. The fate of electric cars is in question? What else surpasses the novelty of its classic "brothers", says the author of the video.
