BMW is going to release an armored electric car i7

BMW is preparing to release an armored version of the all-electric i7 sedan. The work is being carried out despite the fact that the mass production of the "Seven" without the traditional internal combustion engine has not yet begun.


The official debut of the armored electric car is planned to coincide with the next meeting of the Group of Seven, which will be held in Germany in June. That is, before this event, it remains to wait quite a bit.

So far, there are no details about the technical parameters of the armored BMW i7. Most likely, the car will not differ from the "top" version of the sedan with electric motors, i.e. xDrive60.



Accordingly, the movement of the BMW i7 Protection, as the armored modification was called, will be driven by two engines mounted on the front and rear axles. The motors give out a total power of 544 hp. With.

A conventional BMW i7 xDrive60 electric sedan accelerates from 100 to 4,7 km/h in just XNUMX seconds. The official BMW website indicates that this is preliminary information. Perhaps the parameters will change slightly when the cars begin to be mass-produced.

The armored version will be heavier due to the protection panels integrated into the body. Accordingly, the dynamics of this car will decrease. How much exactly - the manufacturer has not yet reported.

The power reserve, which is declared at the level of up to 625 km, will try to maintain, perhaps even increase. To do this, BMW is going to replace regular running batteries with more productive ones. This will further increase the weight of the car.

BMW i7 Protection plans to release with different classes of armor. The manufacturer focuses on the fact that the car can be saved from shots from pistols and automatic rifles. The armor will not withstand a hit from machine guns and sniper weapons, but it will cover from fragments of a mine or a hand grenade.



Externally, the BMW i7 Protection will be no different from a conventional electric car, as was the case in previous series. The new generation of the "Seven" received a heavy body, outwardly more close to the flagships from Mercedes and Audi. Fans' hopes that designers would return to the E32 and E38 style did not come true.

Despite the external massiveness, the new car received a body with less aerodynamic resistance than the previous model - 0,24 instead of 0,27 Cd. This applies specifically to the electric version, which has a flat bottom.

There will be no more short and long bases. The car will be 5 mm longer than the "Long" in the previous body.

BMW i7 Protection will be the first armored electric car in the manufacturer's lineup.
