Geely prices sank in Belarus, Russia – get ready

It became known that the cost of Chinese Geely brand crossovers in Belarus suddenly decreased by 15%. This is evidenced by an advertising banner posted on the website of the Belarusian dealer.


Where does the sharp decline in prices come from, if the cost of cars, including Chinese ones, is growing in Russia? And should we expect Russian Geely dealers to follow their colleagues? Moreover, crossovers are assembled in Belarus. In theory, the Geely price cut should also affect our market in the near future.

Just a few days ago, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting on the economy suddenly raised the issue of a rise in the price of Geely cars. The leader of the republic directly asked those present if they knew that the cost of cars that are assembled in the country has doubled since the beginning of 2022.



According to Lukashenka, this cannot be explained. Yes, the dollar and euro rates rose sharply, but then fell back to the level of 2021. And the cost of cars, which reacted to the jump in currencies, is in no hurry to go down. The President of Belarus is sure that problems with logistics and economic sanctions cannot justify a double increase.

At the meeting, the head of the State Control Committee was given the task to sort out and put things in order with pricing at the factory and at Geely dealers. The result was not long in coming - Lukashenka was handed a report that the cost of cars was reduced by 15% due to a decrease in the profits of the plant and dealers.

According to the head of the State Control Committee, work with Geely will continue. If possible, the prices will drop even further.

In fact, the increase in the cost of Geely cars in Belarus was much more modest. Not twice, but about 30%. By announcing a 15% discount on all models, the manufacturer will still be in a big plus.



By the way, the prices for crossovers of the Belarusian assembly have not changed. Right now there is a discount on the entire range. Most likely, the representatives of the brand decided to wait out the "storm" and then refuse the 15% discount.

Should we expect price cuts for Geely crossovers in Russia? Most likely, yes, but it will not happen immediately. You need to understand that dealers need to sell cars already bought at an increased cost. When they buy the next batch of crossovers and start selling it, then we can talk about a price reduction.

Another question is whether the 15% discount will remain in Belarus for a long time?
