Mercedes-AMG One is a five-engine hypercar with 1049 hp. With.
Whether you expected it or not, it came out. The new Mercedes-AMG One hypercar has shown that the German concern can keep promises. It's been more than five years since the company pledged to put a Formula 1 engine in a road car, and now it's happened. The car really received a power plant for 1049 hp. with., and on this truth you can drive on ordinary roads. This is the main, but not the only trump card of the model - let's study them.

Five engine monster

Back in 2017, it became known that the Mercedes-AMG One will receive an F1 engine, which until very recently was used only in racing cars. Specifically, this is a 1,6-liter V6, for which the peak of rotation is somewhere in the region of 11000 rpm. Of course, the engine does not single-handedly produce the claimed 1049 hp. With. power. The gasoline internal combustion engine accounts for “only” 566 hp. with., and a turbocharger equipped with an electric booster helps to implement them. Even with that crazy power, the V6 is fully compliant with all Euro 6 emission standards.

Where did another 483 liters go? s., you ask? This is where the fun begins. Mercedes-AMG One is a hybrid, in which, in addition to the mentioned F1, four more electric engines are installed. There are two of them at the front, one for each wheel, with both producing a total of 322 hp. With. The third electric motor works simultaneously with the internal combustion engine, adding another 161 hp to it. With. crankshaft power. Finally, a fourth electric motor is connected to a turbocharger. His work manifests itself in the form of an additional 121 hp. With. In total, the hypercar is equipped with five engines at once!

With all the motors turned on at the same time, the hypercar accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2,9 seconds. Maximum torque at each wheel is provided by the advanced AMG 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. Transmission is a 7-speed automatic transmission, uniquely designed and built exclusively for the One. By the way, acceleration from 0 to 190 km / h looks more impressive - the hypercar overcomes this gap on the speedometer in only 7 seconds. Top speed is limited to 352 km/h, also for safety reasons.

Accumulators

While working on the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar, engineers put a lot of effort into batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are on board to power the four electric motors. Their capacity is noticeably lower than that of pure hybrids, since we are considering a plug-in one. The total battery capacity is a ridiculous 8,4 kWh. This is enough for only 20 kilometers of driving with the engine off. However, for the tasks assigned to electric motors, this is enough.

Engineers paid much more attention to the removal of excess heat from the battery compartment. For this, a complex liquid cooling system has been implemented, and for each battery separately. Due to this, it was possible to increase the efficiency of energy return and increase the level of safety.

Suspension and body

Especially for the Mercedes-AMG One, a load-bearing body with pushrod suspension was developed. It is as light as possible to achieve the best dynamics. Behind we see a powerful body kit, the essence of which is to ensure good aerodynamic qualities. An air intake is visible on the roof. The side mirrors are spaced far enough on the pillars to provide a better view.

The suspension is represented by a five-link system with two adjustable struts both front and rear. Interestingly, they are located perpendicular to the vehicle's motion vector. Thanks to this, the struts fully replace the traditional anti-roll bar and provide protection to the body from strong roll during cornering.

The hypercar offers the driver the ability to switch driving modes, each of which involves a specific suspension adjustment. There are six types of settings in total:

✅ Race Safe. Standard hybrid mode with ICE connection as needed.
✅ Race. Similar to the previous one, but the gasoline engine works all the time as a generator.
✅EV. The car is driven exclusively by electric motors.
✅ Race Plus. Active aerodynamics, rigid chassis tuning, lowered suspension.
✅ Strat 2. Like the previous mode, but the suspension is even stiffer. Motor power at 100%.
✅ Individual. The driver can adjust the suspension settings to his own taste.

The hypercar is mounted on special wheels with ten massive "spokes" on each disc. At the request of the buyer, forged magnesium alloy wheels on nine beams, additionally shod in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 M01 tires, can be installed on the car. Considering the hypercar's price tag, it's no wonder these signature tires were designed exclusively for it.

High speed implies the need for fast and efficient braking. Engineers did not fail here, too, equipping the wheels of the car with 15,6-inch carbon-ceramic brakes, which are pressed against six-piston calipers. This is with regard to the two front wheels, since the rear wheels are already a little simpler - their diameter is exactly 15 inches.

Interior and chips

The Mercedes-AMG One hypercar's F1 affiliation goes way beyond its suspension and racing league-specific engine. So, deep bucket seats are located in the passenger compartment, designed to support the body of the driver and passenger in a position that is optimal for driving at high speed and quickly entering turns. The chairs support the straight orientation of the legs, so it can be a little uncomfortable if you are not used to it, but this is a matter of time.

Directly in front of the driver's seat is the steering wheel, made in the typical F1 rectangular shape. There are also two digital displays with a diagonal of 10 inches each. Of course, there are moments that cannot be found in a racing car. It's about comfort options. Among them there are air vents of the climate control system and grilles, behind which the loud speakers of a professional multimedia system are hidden.

Particularly attentive will notice that there is no rear-view mirror in the cabin of the hypercar, although there should be one. Still, the car is designed to drive on public roads. The absence of a mirror is due to the fact that, due to the aerodynamic details of the body, nothing would be visible in it anyway. However, you don’t have to drive “blindly” either - the functions of the rear mirror are taken over by a camera installed at the stern of the car. The image from it is displayed on the display in the cabin.

When on sale?

At the moment, it follows from the official statements of the concern that the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar will be released in a limited edition of 275 copies. The interesting thing is that each of them is already the object of interest of wealthy buyers, so it makes no sense to stand in line. The cost of one car is also mentioned - exactly 2 million US dollars. Does this exclusivity mean that mere mortals will not be able to see the hypercar in public? Not at all, because the public premiere of the Mercedes-AMG One will take place at the end of this June at the Goodwood Festival.
