Scientists from Israel came up with a film that can cool the car

A team of enthusiastic scientists from Israel presented an interesting startup - a film for car wrapping. This material is able to cool the body when exposed to sunlight. The stronger the sun "fries", the more efficient the film will work.


A startup called SolCold is interesting because it will allow you to stop using car air conditioners. The material will help save on fuel and maintenance of special cooling systems.

Film for cars is only the first stage. After a series of tests, manufacturers are going to release a special fabric. From this material they will be able to sew clothes for residents of hot regions of the globe. First of all, such things will be popular in the homeland of developers - in Israel.



The fact that the project is promising is evidenced by the fact of participation in the tests of the Volkswagen concern. The automaker provided several new Polos and the necessary measuring equipment for testing.

As you know, the car body always heats up in the sun. The darker the color, the stronger this process will occur. Volkswagen Polo, covered with SolCold film, did not just reflect the sun's rays. The more intense the heating, the more the material cools. Inside the car, the temperature is kept up to 14 degrees less than outside.

The test results impressed investors so much that the Israeli startup plans to start mass production of its innovative film in the fall of 2022. It is possible that Volkswagen will become one of the first customers.

Film from SolCold reflects solar energy at a rate several times faster than it receives. This is what causes the cooling process. The material was developed specifically for cars and meets all safety standards. It does not dazzle others like standard mirror coatings. This means that the film can be used in the production or tuning of cars with virtually no restrictions.



A few details about how the tests took place. Three white Volkswagen Polos were taken to the desert. Two of them were placed in the sun - the body of one of these cars was covered with a cooling film. The third car was put in the shade.

As a result, in the cabin of the car without a film, a temperature of more than 55 degrees Celsius was recorded. The car, which is in the shade, heated up to 40 ° inside. Inside the Volkswagen Polo, pasted over with a film, the maximum temperature rose only to 37 °.
