KAMAZ began assembling experimental cabins for trucks of the Compass model. According to the manufacturer's press service, this is a serious step towards localization.


Recall that the Compass medium-duty trucks are a joint project of KAMAZ and the Chinese company JAC. In fact, partners from the Middle Kingdom simply supply disassembled cars to the Russian brand.

KAMAZ is assembling a Chinese model similar to the JAC N-Series. From the Russian brand, initially there were only the name and logo of the running horse.



The truck is equipped with a turbodiesel engine with a displacement of 3,8 liters per 154 hp. With. This is the Chinese Cummins ISF, which managed to establish itself on the positive side on the GAZelle Next.

KAMAZ is gradually working on the localization of the production of its medium-duty trucks Compass. First there was a typical "screwdriver" assembly. Then in Russia they began to weld cabin frames on their own.

And now the moment has come for the implementation of the next stage - the assembly of cabins. A whole conveyor has been allocated for this, so we can already say that the stage has been successfully completed.

The management of KAMAZ is convinced that the enterprise has the necessary production capacities for large-scale production. The conveyor has special equipment for welding, raising cabins, installing glazing, tightening connections with the required torque.

A trial assembly has already been carried out. She proved that KAMAZ specialists coped with the task. The commission checked the technical issues and did not find anything to complain about.

The dashboard is assembled separately, and installed in the cab using a manipulator. Specialists from the Chinese company JAC argued that it was impossible to do this, but domestic engineers were able to implement such a scheme.



Gradually, when assembling medium-duty trucks Compass, KAMAZ introduces changes aimed at localizing production. The cabin, which is assembled on a conveyor, has domestic wiring harnesses, relays and other parts. Some elements of the interior are also Russian-made.

The first cabs assembled at KAMAZ were sent to the technical center. There they will be carefully examined, tested and the necessary adjustments will be made if necessary.

In June 2022, it is planned to assemble 90 cabins for the Compass.
