Serial production of Silant off-road trucks began in Russia

Serial production of Silant off-road trucks began in Russia
The management of the Cheboksary Plant of Power Units reported on the start of mass production of Silant off-road trucks. This technique is unique, and its cross-country ability surpasses even the Sadko, and even more so the GAZ-66.

The first batch of serial trucks has already been sold and sent to work in the quarries of Kazakhstan. There is a need for vehicles with high cross-country ability. "Silant" can be converted into any special equipment, ranging from ordinary "flights" for the delivery of personnel to the site, ending with the use of geologists and oilmen.

The machines are distinguished by a high load capacity for their class - 3-8 tons, and on any roads, and not just on asphalt. There are no analogues of Silant in Russia - it is rather an all-terrain vehicle. "Sadko" is an excellent car, created on the GAZ-66 chassis, but it is a truck that is inferior in terms of cross-country ability to a new serial Russian car.

Among the full-fledged competitors in this class, one can only name such legends as Unimog and Bremach T-REX. Only the cost of analogues is several times higher, which makes these machines unclaimed on the Russian market, where they have never been officially sold.

The design is based on a steel frame. Even the lightest Silants have a chassis safety margin starting from 5 tons. This allows overloads of more than 50% in situations where it is necessary.

The cabin is framed - tests have shown that it can withstand even truck overturns due to the rigidity of the steel elements. The glass area is high, which gives the driver wide viewing angles in different directions.

Engines on the "Silant" are installed only turbodiesel. It was decided to abandon gasoline power units - they are not suitable for all-terrain vehicles, primarily because of the huge fuel consumption.

The customer chooses the motor himself, focusing on the tasks and financial opportunities. Under the hood of a truck there may be a Russian YaMZ 534, a Belarusian MMZ D245, a Chinese YC4S150-50 from YUCHAI or a Cummins ISF 3.8. For aesthetes, Finnish SISU 44DTA or English Perkins are offered.

Silant is far from a new development. Piece by piece trucks have been assembled since 2009. But only the Cheboksary plant of power units promises to make this model a large-scale one. The enterprise has the necessary capabilities and material and technical base for this.

Whether Silant will become popular outside of Russia, time will tell. The manufacturer has already taken the first step for this by sending a batch of trucks to Kazakhstan.
