The ban on the export of cars from the United States - what do Russian motorists think
The US Department of Commerce has published a document according to which a ban is introduced on the import of cars and motorcycles from the United States into the Russian Federation. The embargo applies to both new and used cars, bikes, as well as large components for them assemblies (body, chassis). The registry includes Chevrolet, Cadillac, Jeep products. It is forbidden to export part of the BMW models assembled in the States, the Nissan Pathfinder crossover, which was previously supplied to the Russian Federation.

They also banned the export of electric Tesla and motorcycles with an engine capacity of more than 50 cubic meters. see. Snowmobiles and mopeds will not be sold to Russia from the USA. The list took 19 sheets. Initially, it was stated that only luxury goods were banned. However, if you look at the list, it becomes obvious that this is not the case. For example, cars are divided into several groups. In one of them there is a “classification” according to the volume of the power unit: more than three liters, from 1,5 to 3, from 1 to 1,5 and less than 1 liter. In the latter case, it’s somehow impossible to talk about “luxury”. It's also funny that in the States such cars are not produced. It is also interesting that the list does not include buses and trucks. It is also unclear whether pickups are prohibited from being exported.

Importing cars from Europe has become very difficult, including through Belarus. One of the difficulties associated with the purchase is the blocking of online auction accounts, through which most transactions were conducted. There are problems with payment - you will have to carry cash, in the amount of not more than 10 thousand dollars (or euros). Other barriers include logistical difficulties and political uncertainty. Some sellers in the EU simply refuse to sell the car if it then goes to Russia. And what do motorists think about the bans from the United States? Opinions vary:

On American cars, the world did not converge like a wedge, there are other options, no worse. In addition, the share of cars from the United States in terms of sales in Russia is scanty - something in the region of a few percent. And it's mostly premium tech

- Pyotr Sergeevich P. was not at all upset.

There are also workarounds - buy in Armenia, for example, and take it out through Georgia. The scheme is normal, it works. It’s only profitable to buy a used car, it’s better not to think about new ones, it’s unprofitable. The “older” the car, the lower the duty on it in Armenia. It used to be normal: you can freely drive with Armenian numbers, and after Armenia joins the Customs Union (in 2020), the car will have to be cleared according to Russian laws, and this is expensive

Ashot A says

Yes, the loophole has been closed. It makes sense to go to Armenia for a car if you need a particular model, and you are its fan and no expenses will stop you. Then you need to clear the car immediately in the Russian Federation

- Sergey Timofeevich N.

There is another way - to become a citizen of Armenia and roll freely along the roads of the Eurasian Economic Community. But it is unlikely that any of the Russians will like this option: because of some kind of car, making yourself dual citizenship (it is allowed in the Russian Federation and Armenia) is a lot of trouble plus expenses

- Alexander T.

I wonder if it is possible to bring an American car from China and how much does it cost? Most likely, it is expensive, because nothing has been heard about such a scheme yet

Introduced by Victor R.

Who needs it, if there is money, he will buy it at exorbitant prices

- concludes Alexey Petrovich B.
