Solar City Car officially presented to the public

The management of Squad Mobility presented a two-seater compact electric car, additionally equipped with solar panels. The creators are confident that the novelty will erase the line between two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles and will be the first of many such solutions. The machine is designed for both private and shared use. The concern plans to establish a public transport system so that anyone can find the nearest Solar City Car through a mobile application and drive to the desired point.

Project Information

The developers showed the first images in 2019, they were renders, which eventually changed a lot. After signing an investment agreement with Bloomit Ventures, the startup received the necessary funding and accelerated work.



In July 2021, the first photos of the Solar City Car concepts were published, and pre-order became available. The latest news appeared today, representatives showed the official images of the car, announced the specification, cost and terms of delivery. The first customers will receive copies in 2023.

Technical data

The vehicle is classified in the European Union as a light electric vehicle type L6e. In many states, only a moped license is enough to drive. Depending on the country, the age is 14, 15 or 16 years. The creators focus on the fact that the frame of the car is additionally reinforced to protect passengers. According to the head of the design department, the level of safety of the novelty is much higher than required for transport of this class.



The passenger compartment can comfortably accommodate two people up to 190 cm tall, the trunk volume is 68 liters. The equipment is quite poor, which is understandable for an electric car worth 6 euros, but it is possible that there will be richer equipment.

The car is driven by two 2 kW motors powered by four replaceable 1,6 kWh lithium-ion batteries, providing a range of 100 km. Solar modules on the roof increase the total mileage by 20 km per day, part of the energy is replenished through regenerative braking. The maximum speed is 45 km/h.



The car is already being certified in Europe, in North America they are also interested in the novelty. The creators said that a four-seat version will be presented next year.
