C8 Corvette Z06 breaks series speed record

According to preliminary data obtained from anonymous sources, the C8 Corvette Z06 covered a quarter mile (400 meters) in 10,6 seconds, which is 0,3 seconds faster than the previous generation C7 Z06. According to these indicators, the new Corvette is quite a bit behind the Porsche 911 Turbo S, which covers the same distance in just 10,1 seconds.




The 8 C06 Corvette Z2023 has just been unveiled, but the fun is just getting started. Even at the development stage, he became the first mid-engine representative in his family. Such metamorphoses made some fans of the brand nervous and even slightly disappointed in the new product, but its technical characteristics immediately put the conservatives in their place.

The heart of the new Z06 is a 5,5-liter naturally aspirated engine with an aluminum block and 670 horsepower, taken from the Corvette C8.R. The American manufacturer confidently claims that this is the absolute champion among naturally aspirated V8 engines installed on production cars.

Corvette engineers spent many hours in an anechoic chamber trying to tune the exhaust sound that is unusual for road models. Unlike the basic modifications, the Z06 exhaust pipes are not located along the edges of the bumper, as is customary on many models of the American company, but are located in the center. Perhaps that is why the “voice” of the novelty is not the same as that of other colleagues in the line.



Corvette Z06 is available in two body styles - a coupe and a roadster for those who like to drive without a roof. Of course, the novelty differs from its counterparts not only in technical characteristics, but also in design. The car gained increased air intakes on the sides of the body, a splitter appeared under the lower part of the front bumper. The spoiler has also undergone some changes. For those who make the highest stakes on aerodynamics, a package is available with additional flaps on the front bumper and a fairly impressive wing made of lightweight carbon fiber. All these design innovations make the Corvette Z06 look like a Stingray track sibling.

If everything goes according to plan, the C8 Corvette Z06 will go into mass production in the summer of 2022. Then it will be possible to talk about the cost of the car, and about its specific characteristics.
