Toyota Aygo X 2022 now debuts as a crossover

Toyota has completed development of its first two generations of Europe's smallest car with support from Peugeot and Citroen. However, the new Aygo X 2022 model year is something completely new in this matter, as the model is created exclusively by Toyota. Given the fact that the two brands mentioned above decided to leave the small car segment and did not develop the 108 and C1 models, respectively, the novelty from Japan has fewer competitors.


The "X" suffix in the name Aygo X indicates a clear transition from a hatchback to a crossover. Although the model still satisfies the definition of an A-segment model adopted in Europe, the novelty is significantly larger compared to its predecessor. Its length is 3700 millimeters, which is as much as 235 millimeters longer than the previous generation. The wheelbase has also grown by 90 mm, which gives additional space and comfort to passengers sitting in the back row. On the other hand, the rear windows are still retractable, you can’t lower them yourself.



The changes affected not only the length, but also the width - the new model is 125 millimeters wider and 65 millimeters higher. Due to this, the Aygo X is even closer to similar cars Hyundai i10, Kia Picanto and Fiat Panda. The load capacity has also increased, the trunk in the new model has become 60 liters more spacious compared to its predecessor. If you fold the rear seats, the capacity increases to 829 liters, which is quite a lot for car of such dimensions.

During development, the Aygo X grew so large that Toyota decided to equip the car with 18-inch black wheels with contrasting orange accents. The novelty “stands” on the GA-B platform, which implies the presence of a retractable fabric roof. Despite the increased dimensions compared to the previous generation, the car has a small turning radius (about 4,7 meters), due to which it feels great in the tight urban jungle.



As for the technical equipment, Aygo X is equipped with a 1,0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with a capacity of 72 horsepower. The three-cylinder power unit is available in two combinations - with a 5-speed manual or stepless automatic transmission.

Depending on the specification, the machine can weigh from 940 to 1015 kg. Fuel consumption is very low at just 4,7 l/100 km and emissions barely exceed 107 g/km. Toyota plans to start selling the new Aygo X crossover in 2022. The exact date has not yet been announced
