Bajaj Boxer 150 - Indian with Japanese reliability

Bajaj Boxer 150 - Indian with Japanese reliability
The best motorcycles are made in Japan - everyone knows that. That's just the equipment from the Land of the Rising Sun is expensive, and the one that is cheaper is old. Of course, you can find a good bike even in age, but, as a rule, it will be with a cubic capacity of 500 cm3 or more.

Why is an Indian motorcycle better?

Motorcycles from India? This is something new! Many are accustomed to the fact that the Chinese rule in the class of small-capacity vehicles. Numerous Russian brands are all the same manufacturers from the Middle Kingdom, only under a different name.

And then an Indian motorcycle. Bajaj Boxer? No, you haven't! But as it turned out, Bajaj is one of the world leaders in the production of motorcycles.
BAJAJ AUTO Ltd has been operating on the Russian market since 2015. In narrow circles, the technique of this manufacturer is well known. Motorcycles are closer in reliability to Japanese devices than to Chinese ones. There are few complaints about them, it seems that the reviews are bought, but the bikes are of high quality.

Bajaj Boxer 150 - price

The most popular bike is the Bajaj Boxer 125/150. We will talk about a model with a 150 cm3 engine, but the 125 is almost no different, except for the engine size.

Cost:

  • ? BAJAJ Boxer 150 UG - 108 rubles
  • ? BM 150X disc - 115

Modifications differ in the presence of a front disc brake and a high cross wing in the BM 150X disc.

The cost of the motorcycle is low, especially considering that the Yamaha YBR125 competitor is sold from 185 rubles, and it has a smaller engine. But Yamaha is a brand with a name and reliability, but what does an Indian bike offer?

Some will say that the YBR125 fits into category A1. But BAJAJ has a motorcycle with this engine size, and it costs 98 rubles.

Features of the Indian bike

The motorcycle is a simple and inexpensive road bike, with a bias towards the countryside. The first impression of the BAJAJ Boxer 150 - maybe it's a Soviet Minsk?

The bike is simple, iron, with a minimum of plastic, everything is as it was in the old Voskhod. Only cast wheels spoil the charm of the USSR, well, a disc brake and a cross wing on the BM 150X disc modification.

The dashboard is simple. Photo: Youtube.com

The suspension of the motorcycle is the simplest - a telescopic fork in front, a pendulum in the back and two shock absorbers of a strange design. By the way, the latter is a signature feature from BAJAJ, “double spring gives high comfort...”. Nothing like that, shock absorbers work the same way as conventional ones, only structurally stronger.

Everything is primitive, but it will be difficult to break. If you disassemble the motorcycle and inspect the frame, you can see that the welding is done with high quality, and the pipes are thick.

Another BAJAJ Boxer 150 is positioned as a three-seat motorcycle. The seat is really long and wide, but only two of the average Russians can fit here. But they will be spacious - this is a fact.

The dashboard is made in the spirit of minimalism, like the 1970s. But everything is clear and visible, what else to expect from a budget motorcycle?
The gas tank holds 11 liters of fuel, this should be enough for at least 350 km. Consumption is small, plus a reserve.
The motorcycle starts with a button, that is, there is an electric starter. If the battery runs out, you can start the engine with a kick.

The motor is the simplest, four-valve - and thanks for that. Air cooling, carburetor power supply, manual suction.

Motorcycle in motion

The first thing that the new owner of the BAJAJ Boxer 150 will pay attention to is a strange gear shifting algorithm. New bikes are equipped with a 5-speed gearbox, four-speed units were installed on the old ones. But in Boxer 150 in any modification, all gears are switched only down.

For beginners, there is nothing terrible in such an algorithm, except that it will be necessary to relearn after changing the bike. But an experienced motorcyclist will have to constantly remind himself of the nuances of the checkpoint. But the lever is comfortable and wide, both up and down it is easy to switch in any shoe.

Traction on the bottoms is good, but the maximum speed is slightly more than 100 km / h. Such stars - the motorcycle was designed for the Indian countryside, and there the roads are much worse than in Russia.

The rear shocks can handle two men under 100kg without a problem, which is amazing. The front fork, despite its flimsy appearance, also holds up well.

There are brakes, and thanks for that. You should not expect any clarity of work from them, but for a speed in the region of 100 km / h this is enough. If you need a more reliable system, it's easier to get the version with the disk in front.

Motorcycle handling is controversial - worse than the Yamaha YBR125, but better than the Chinese in this class. The chassis plays at speed and in turns, it becomes scary. Regular tires are too thin and "oak", it is better to change them immediately.

The motorcycle was created specifically for the countryside, it is not intended for "produbas". If you drive on the highway - nothing good will come of it. Cruising speed of 80 km / h, if you go faster - the engine starts to roar at high speeds.

You will have to move along the highway either near the side of the road, which is not recommended, because it’s scary, or in the middle of the lane, collecting the “tail” behind you.

Three people still fit, but one will sit on the trunk. Photo: Youtube.com

But on rural roads, forest and field trails, the motorcycle feels like a fish in water. The regular trunk seems to come from the USSR - it is monumental, you can load and carry sacks of potatoes. Yamaha YBR125 will definitely not tolerate this - the mount will break.

The chain guard protects the chain from dirt, dust and stones. Functional device, lubrication and cleaning is rarely needed. The chain itself is not as “rubber” as that of Chinese bikes, it nurses three times more.

There are regular safety arcs. They are made of thin pipes and will bend when falling at speed, but they will do their job of protecting the legs and crankcase covers.

The footrests are long and comfortable.

The Bajaj Boxer BM 150X disc modification has corrugations on the fork - they perfectly perform their protective functions.

The main advantages and disadvantages of a motorcycle

Indian motorcycle has more pluses than minuses. The cost of the bike is almost two times lower than that of the Yamaha YBR125, on par with most Chinese classmates. At the same time, the quality of the Indian is higher. These were supposed to be updated Soviet motorcycles after the collapse of the USSR, but it did not work out.

The simplest design implies reliability and maintainability. Spare parts for Bajaj Boxer are always available from the dealer, you can order everything by mail to any corner of Russia. The cost of parts pleases - like on Chinese motorcycles, while the quality is higher.

The bike is primitive and hardy - the metal here is really iron, and not “plasticine”. Fuel consumption of 2,5-3 liters is also a plus, Bajaj Boxer “digests” 92 gasoline without problems.

No serious flaws were found, but there are little things to complain about:

  • ? Steering angle is small
  • ? Brakes miserable
  • ? Light optics is weak
  • ? The look is outdated, although the popular BM 150X disc looks better

There are enough dynamics in the city, but you should not meddle on the track on this motorcycle. Although, if you really need it, then no problem, you just have to drive at a speed of 80-90 km / h.

In terms of maintenance costs, it will be cheaper to travel by Bajaj Boxer 150 than by public transport.

As a result, the Bajaj Boxer 150 is the perfect motorcycle for the Russian countryside. He has enough patency for the forest and even light enduro. If you change the tires to "toothy", the bike rushes like a tank.
