Lilium Jet eVIL Certification Postponed to 2025

Lilium Jet eVIL Certification Postponed to 2025
The German manufacturer of vertical takeoff aircraft Lilium announced that the planned date for obtaining the certificate was postponed by 1 year. At the same time, the management does not consider this a problem, since the safety of equipment and ease of operation are in the first place in the development. During the test, additional factors were identified that require attention, so it was decided to adjust the schedule.

Lilium Jet Features

The manufacturer has patented a channel electric vector thrust, which provides excellent controllability, maneuverability of the aircraft and economical consumption of electricity. Multiple jet engines built into the flaps increase payload and allow for quick changes in thrust direction, which is important for VTOL vehicles.

The internal space is transformed for different purposes of operation. This is a universal solution that can be used as a private transport for passenger transportation (up to 6 seats). Another option is to move small loads over short distances.

Zero emissions eliminate environmental harm, while the aerodynamic shape and the use of special acoustic inserts in each jet engine reduce noise to a minimum.

Project Perspectives

The head of the company stressed that the developers are working closely with specialists from the Aviation Safety Agency of the European Union and the US Federal Aviation Administration. This is necessary in order to provide safety standards comparable to commercial airliners. Thanks to this approach, the company became the first whose applications for certification were accepted both in the European Union and in the United States.

Today, the necessary components are being supplied to assemble a full-scale prototype, the release of which is scheduled for 2023. The finished sample will be tested for 15-18 months. This is the amount of time needed to deeply test all systems and ensure the highest level of security.

The tests will be carried out in Spain, the corresponding permission has already been signed. A detailed plan has been drawn up that will allow you to test all aspects of operation and identify problems if any.
