Why did semi-trailers-tippers not take root in the Union?
If someone had to unload a flatbed truck at least once in the old days, then he will appreciate the capabilities of the dump truck. Imagine how half a century ago, men with shovels unload sand from the back of, for example, the old "Lawn". How much heavy and unnecessary (when compared with a dump truck body) work? Hard workers waited and dreamed of a truck that could unload itself.

The first attempts to satisfy their aspirations were made as early as pre-war 1935. Soviet designers were able to build at the facilities of the Yaroslavl Automobile Plant a kind of dump truck with a carrying capacity of 3,5 tons. Why similarity? Now understand. It was an ordinary flatbed truck with a wooden sheet at the bottom of the body. During unloading, the crane lifted one side of the sheet, doing what ordinary dump trucks today do on their own. Through the open sides, the transported material fell to the ground.

Already in the 60s, dump trucks confidently settled in our country. And the increasing volumes of transportation posed new challenges for them. The main one was the increase in the volume of cargo carried per flight. One of the solutions to this issue was a new design - a semi-trailer. They also tried to make dump trucks, but faced problems with the stability of transport during unloading. This period is described in a video on the AUTO REBEL channel.
