Despite the constant assurances of the Soviet leaders about the desire for peace, the country was still quite militarized. During the Cold War and the constant arms race, it could not be otherwise. Therefore, all the advanced developments of the domestic auto industry, first of all, became on a war footing. In such a privileged position, it would never have occurred to anyone to massively purchase foreign military trucks. After all, dependence in the defense issue can put the country in a very vulnerable position.
A completely different picture was observed among civilian trucks. Although we had several excellent factories that produced tractors, dump trucks and other equipment of various tonnage, there were still unfilled vacancies. And they were successfully mastered by foreign trucks. It seems that no one was embarrassed that a great country was forced to purchase many imported samples, and not only from fraternal socialist countries.
Traditionally, Czechoslovak vehicles played the main "violin", but there were also German trucks. Including West German ones. About what kind of equipment it was and how it worked in the Soviet national economy - see the video on the AUTO REBEL channel.
