The vehicles drive autonomously, but their work will be monitored by specialists located in the control center. This will accelerate the introduction of unmanned technologies and provide new jobs, which is also important.
Information about the novelty
The Swedish company is currently developing class 8 autonomous cargo transport. The first model was the T-Log timber carrier, which successfully passed the tests and showed its effectiveness. Powered Pod cargo platform has been tested in Sweden since 2019. Today, the verification process is already at the final stage, the transport has shown itself well.

But the company has plans to conquer a part of the American market, as more promising and profitable. Einride opened a US office in November 2021 with a fleet of chauffeured trucks. For the introduction of unmanned models, 200 batteries have already been purchased. Testing will begin in the coming months. The system consists of several autonomous modules, the operation of which will be monitored by the operator. Tiffany Hittcott, a truck driver with twenty years of experience, was chosen for this position.

An experienced driver knows the specifics of work better than others and will be able to respond to emergency situations quickly and correctly. At the same time, piloting will be autonomous, the operator controls the process and optimizes routes if there is a traffic jam or insurmountable obstacles along the way. Adding the human factor, which other companies are trying to get rid of, according to Einride management, will make cargo transportation an order of magnitude safer and faster.

To become an operator, you must complete a training course that includes familiarity with the platform and mastering the control system. Today, work is underway to organize the workspace and develop protocols for all possible situations. Tests will be held in Texas, they will take from six months to a year.
