Mi-2 is a popular Soviet helicopter manufactured in Poland.

Soviet helicopters were not very diverse, especially in the 50s. But the national economy needed such equipment. It allowed communication with the most remote settlements. The residents of the Far North especially appreciated the "dragonflies". Mail, food, scientists, doctors, trips to large cities - this is not a complete list of what the helicopter delivered. The main model of the late 50s was the Mi-1. But it was already outdated in those years. The main disadvantage of this helicopter is the piston engine. The country needed a new model and it was the Mi-2. The main feature was two gas turbine engines. By the way, until 2 the Mi-1971 was the only serial helicopter with a pair of power units.

During the development process, engineers tried to simplify their task as much as possible. Plus, "from above" they demanded that the Mi-2 be put into production as soon as possible. Therefore, when creating a helicopter, components and assemblies from the previous model, the Mi-1, were used. It is not known why, but they decided to establish production in Poland. Local designers wanted to stand out at least with their own name. The helicopter was supposed to get the name "Marabu", but the Soviet side insisted on continuity. Therefore, the model went down in history as the Mi-2. By the way, many experts now argue that the Polish assembly has benefited. And the author of the SkyShips channel will tell about the helicopter.
