How and what are airliners fueled with?

Before flight aircraft are being prepared: this is done by a special airfield service. And here one of the important moments is refueling the aircraft with fuel - aviation kerosene. But this process is completely different from the car: arrived at the gas station, paid, stuck in the “gun”, filled up with fuel and drove away.

With airliners, things are different. There is a separate structure for providing fuel at airfields. The task of its divisions is to bring, store, check the quality and deliver kerosene to aircraft. We can only observe the last stage: the direct filling of fuel into the tanks. The Aviasmotr channel in its video shows all stages of the process: from the refinery, quality control to refueling on the liner.

The video was recorded in Sheremetyevo, using the example of the A321 and Boeing-777. And here we see a tanker, on the tank of which “TS-1” is displayed in large letters. This is a brand of jet fuel. By the way: why use it, and not, for example, gasoline? And the main reason is simple: this type of fuel has a very low freezing point compared to other types of fuel. But the planes rise to heights of up to 10-12 km, where the “thermometer drops” to -55 °. In addition, kerosene has good lubricating properties. How is fuel delivered from refineries to airports? Think only tanks? Nothing like this! Watch the video and you will learn many more "secrets" related to refueling aircraft.
