We cast pistons from spoons and cans on our own!

In the distant Soviet times, when it was a problem to buy spare parts, many people made them on their own. Well, all right: cutting out the gasket or bending it, cutting out the metal part of the body is somehow understandable. But today, on the Garage 54 channel, they decided to go much further than the “ancestors” of motorists and cast ... aluminum pistons.

For such an operation, they collected all sorts of rubbish: unnecessary spoons, beer cans, juice cans, fragments of alloy wheels. Moreover, after casting, they marked: what a specific piston is made of. At the next stage - extraction from molds and processing using turning, milling machines, fitting to the desired dimensions. And now the grooves for the rings are cut, the necessary recesses are made: outwardly and to the touch, the products resemble purchased ones. What's next?

Everything is serious: the pistons are completed with rings and connected to the connecting rods. Now it remains to install them in the engine. For testing, a conventional "Zhiguli" motor is used. Each product, marked that it is cast from forks and spoons, discs, cans, old pistons, is installed in cylinders with the help of a mandrel. We assemble the unit and fill in the oil - you're done! Exciting moment - starting the engine: it worked. But something else is interesting: how will he behave further, in real conditions? Watch the video!
