Jawa 638 and Izh Planet 5 - the most popular motorcycles in the USSR in the late 80s

Soviet motorcyclists in the 80s were clearly divided into three main groups. They differed significantly in both their principles and their attitude to two-wheeled vehicles. The most numerous category were ordinary people, usually living in rural areas. For them, motorcycle was a common means of transportation. They bought this equipment because they couldn't take car. And in general, a bike is always useful in a village household. You can't drive a car into the forest or to the river along a path. Especially since it's a pity to lose the car, it's valuable, and you can't just buy a new one later. But motorcycles were sold freely.

The second category is youth. For them, the bike was a friend and they rode it more for fun, in companies. The third category is conscious motorcyclists. They chose a bike on purpose, traveled on it and did not change their two-wheeled friend for “canned food”. And the most popular motorcycles in the USSR in the late 80s were Jawa 638 and Izh Planet 5. Jupiter 5 is also good, but it was disliked for its capriciousness and exactingness for careful tuning. Remember the characteristic sound of two-stroke motorcycle engines, popular in the USSR? The author of the channel "Retro Moto 58" will refresh the feeling of youth. Yes, and he has motorcycles, I must say, a feast for the eyes!
