AvtoVAZ plans to start production of new generation Lada Niva in 3 years

In the pre-holiday press release issued by the Russian automaker, several interesting news were announced at once that deserve attention. First of all, this concerns the new version of the legendary Niva SUV. Earlier on the site we published first announcement. Initial predictions did not come true, and exterior renderings that appeared on the network earlier turned out to be incorrect.


According to the sketches that appeared the other day, we can conclude that they decided to make the novelty in the spirit of the first generation. It will be more modern, more technologically advanced, but due to the characteristic contours and side lights above the headlights, the reference turned out to be clear and understandable.

If the planned tasks are carried out on schedule, we can expect the first Niva in late 2024 or early 2025. Today it is known that the car will be based on the CMF-B platform, developed by Renault and already used in the assembly of Logans and Sanderos. By 2025, almost the entire model range of both Lada and Dacia will be assembled on this architecture.



It is worth noting an interesting statement from Russian engineers. They promised that the novelty's cross-country ability would be comparable to the Land Rover Defender, which would be facilitated by high ground clearance and the presence of a reduction gear.

First, a five-door version of the classic formation will be presented with an estimated length of 4,28 m and a wheelbase of 2,6 m. A three-door version is not planned to be produced.

A little later, about 2 years after the presentation of the new Niva, a Grand Niva modification will appear. This is a version with an extended body and an increased wheelbase. Today, active work is underway in all areas, it is possible that the appearance will undergo some changes, but most likely they will not be fundamental.



According to the head of AvtoVAZ, the future new product will debut simultaneously in Russia and Europe. According to his calculations, the starting price car in the basic configuration will be 12-16 thousand euros (from 1 to 1,3 million), and the long version will cost 1,7 million or 20 euros. This cost will allow Niva to successfully compete with European SUVs if the forecasts for cross-country performance come true.

It was also announced the appearance of at least 4 new models until 2025, two of them will be presented as early as 2023.
