Mercedes will go electric and get hydrogen fuel cells
Daimler and Mercedes-Benz CEO says electric era cars has already arrived. This means that the concern's models will gradually lose their internal combustion engines. The exact dates for the complete transition to electricity are not reported.
Judging by the latest exhibitions, a new era for Daimler and Mercedes-Benz is already commonplace - the models are switching to new engines. For example, at the IAA in Munich, the concern presented the EQB crossover and the EQE sedan. Next to them stood two prototypes - Smart Concept # 1 and EQG from Mercedes.
The future production G-Class with an electric motor attracted the most attention at the exhibition. For many, this was the beginning of the end of the legendary Gelendvagen - it seems that even such models will not be able to maintain the uniqueness that has been tested for decades.

Ola Kallenius, CEO of Daimler and Mercedes-Benz, said that not only cars, but also trucks are planning to switch to electric traction. Light vehicles will be equipped with standard batteries, heavy ones will receive hydrogen fuel cells.
The use of new technologies will allow cargo carriers to travel on any route without fear that the battery will sit down, and there will be nowhere to recharge it. In fact, hydrogen fuel cells are analogous to a reactor in which chemical processes take place that charge batteries.
Mercedes-Benz is in no hurry to completely abandon internal combustion engines, believing that the infrastructure in the world is not yet able to withstand the complete replacement of traditional cars with electric cars.
Ola Kallenius said that petrol models will be produced for at least another 10 years, and then the company will act according to circumstances.
The manufacturer at the same time does not want to lag behind competitors. On the contrary, the frequency of the appearance of new electric models suggests that Mercedes-Benz is in the forefront of innovators, as the legend should be.

Again, information was announced that from 2025 the manufacturer will develop only electronic platforms. Tentatively, gasoline models are planned to be abandoned no earlier than 2039. But only if the infrastructure allows it.
Mercedes-Benz offers the state its assistance in the development of technology and innovation.
To the tricky question of whether job cuts are planned due to the gradual abandonment of traditional internal combustion engines, Ola Kallenius said that no one would be hurt. There is still plenty of time, the transition will be smooth, the reduction of some jobs will be offset by the creation of new ones.
It remains only to wait, what's next! Mercedes-Benz does not yet believe in the rapid extinction of ICE cars!
