Race to the Clouds is one of the toughest competitions in the world

The official name Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) is given in honor of the mountain in the central part of the United States. You need to get there faster than your competitors. The 20 km long climb is picturesque, the main rock is pink granite.

But it's not beauty that attracts top rally racers. The track is extremely winding: from start to finish, you need to go through 156 turns. The average gradient is 7%, the total climb exceeds 1400 m.

Since 1916, the event has attracted hundreds of participants, divided into classes: cars, motorcycles, trucks and ATVs. Winning at Pikes Peak is an honor, and Ari Vatanen, Sebastian Loeb and other legends have been champions in their time.

What gives danger is that when leaving the road you can fall into the abyss. At first, the races were held on the ground, then part of the track was asphalted, and only in 2012 did the coating appear from start to finish.
