Unique tractor, preserved only in blueprints

The rapid growth of industrial production required modern high-performance tools. Colossal volumes of cargo moved along domestic roads, and every year their volume increased significantly. The products of the leshozes accounted for a significant part of the total transportation. That is why in 1956, Soviet designers on the basis of the Onega Tractor Plant began designing fundamentally new machines for the logging industry. The first prototype of the T-210, according to its characteristics, promised to become the flagship in the production of modern tractors.

It was intended for skidding and skid-free removal of timber from forest harvesting sites and transportation of long structures. In terms of productivity and maneuverability tractor- the tractor surpassed all existing analogues. When fully loaded, this workhorse carried 56 cubic meters of cargo. Without visible effort, it could move across virgin snow, stumps and boulders, up and down hills. The machine was completely unique. It was supposed to simultaneously use a 12-cylinder diesel engine with a capacity of 300 hp, two fuel tanks with a total volume of 400 liters, and autonomous operation of the wheels.

The tractor-tractor proved to be excellent at the construction of a gas pipeline in the Kara-Kum desert, where it transported sections of colossal pipes across the sands without any problems. According to the plans of the designers, 5000 such monsters would be enough for the Soviet economy. It still remains a mystery why such a promising model remained only in the drawings. Interesting developments of advanced technologies of the USSR, which have not gone into serial production, can be seen in the video from the TECHNO TV channel.
Why did the tractor-tractor not work in the USSR?
